Around The Horns In The NFC West

Each week we are going to bring you the latest in NFC West news. Find out how well the St. Louis Rams are doing against their competition. I will provide you with links to my favorite stories of those teams from our lead bloggers as well as notes from around the internet.

Arizona Cardinals – The Arizona Cardinals signed their top pick this week Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, to a contract on Friday. Dominique will help out the Cardinals secondary and possibly their special teams as well. Scott Allen our lead blogger wrote a feature story Rodgers-Cromartie in the Fold. Kurt Warner plans to fight for starting QB job as reported in the Arizona Daily Sun. Other than money I am not sure why the Cardinals keep handing the job to Leinart prior to competition in training camp. This could once again lead to a team divided. We will keep an eye out on this one.

San Francisco 49ers – The San Francisco 49ers started camp on July 24th. I think the 49ers will have a hard time competing with Alex Smith at QB and a receiving core of Isaac Bruce, Bryant Johnson, Arnaz Battle and Ashley Lelie. The guys over at Ninernoise also seem to have their doubts as stated in Start of 49ers Training Camp. The 49ers were also able to sign their first-round draft pick defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer to a contract.

Seattle SeahawksThe Seattle Seahawks signed their first-round draft pick DE Lawrence Jackson, from USC to a 5 year contract this week. Lawrence will probably be put into a defensive end rotation with Darryl Tapp and Patrick Kerney. I think Jackson could prove to be a great pick at #28 in the 2008 NFL draft. David Sanders wrote a nice piece about the value of Nate Burlseson, Nate the Great…or Just Fantasy? The Seahawks also signed tight end John Carlson this weekend their second-round draft pick TE out of Notre Dame.
