With the St. Louis Rams still working on trying to sign free agent Ron Bartell it looks like plan B may be in motion. NFL.com has reported that New York Giants free agent Safety James Butler is coming to St. Louis to visit with new Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo. At 6-3 and 215 pounds this could be one of the hammers the Rams need in the center of the field to take care of business. It looks like Spagnuolo is serious about making the Rams bigger and more physical in 2009.

"Giants free-agent safety James Butler is visiting the Rams. St. Louis coach Steve Spagnuolo is familiar with Butler after coaching him in New York the past two seasons as the Giants’ defensive coordinator."

Butler was an undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech when the Giants picked him up in 2005. Since then Butler has played in 58 games for the Giants and has earned a Super Bowl ring. It would be hard to imagine Butler not being an upgrade over Corey Chavous who has already been cut by the Rams or Todd Johnson. It is great to see the new Rams coaching staff come in and take care of business like the fans would have done a long time ago. In comes Spagnuolo and out goes Chavous, Green, and Bennett. Those are no brainer decisions but they never happened before. With the signing of Jason Brown look for Nick Leckey and or Brett Romberg to also be shown the door soon. The Rams makeover is under way!
