St. Louis Rams Have Their Pick Of Tackles

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com believes the Detroit Lions will be selecting Matt Stafford from Georgia as the #1 selection in the upcoming 2009 NFL draft.

Florio says he heard from a source the Lions are locked in on Matt Stafford.
Florio says the Lions can’t take the PR hit of moving down in the draft by skipping on their No. 1 pick. Because if it’s a bust, that’s a true disaster.

This should be very good news for the St. Louis Rams. The Rams should have their pick of tackle, and it seems at the moment that is between Jason Smith from Baylor or Eugene Monroe from Virginia. In addition if Stafford is off the board there may be a few teams that will want to trade up to acquire Matt Sanchez. Hopefully the Rams will be taking all calls and still get the player they really want in the end. I still do not see the Rams taking anything other than a OT with their first round pick.

I hope the Rams braintrust realizes that they need to select Aaron Curry with the second pick because a LB of his caliber doesn’t come around every year…this years class of OTs is deep and the Rams can pick up an OT with their second round pick.

    Welcome Saxoman
With Spagnuolo’s experience with the Eagles and Giants I think he screams OT in his sleep. While Curry may be a great player at #2 he will cost 50-60 million dollars and that is a steep price for a LB and not likely to happen. Also your theory of tackles still being there in the 2nd round can work the same wa for LBs. Connor Barwin, James Laurinaitis, & Darry Beckwith amy all still be there when the Rams pick in round 2. In addition a Jason Phillips from TCU can probably be picked up in the 4th round, and he has been compared to Zach Thomas. before draft day everyone is a bust and everyone is a star. The Rams just have to make the right decisions.

spags can scream tackle all he wants. wait till the linebacking core that is more awful than the o-line plays . witherspoon needs to be outside and they need a couple linebackers out of this draft . tinoisamoa is always hurt and the depth is not there. tackles or guards who can play tackle will be there in round three. get a wr in two , and defense after that. o-line currently has nine players under contract , lbs have three starters and special teamers. need to build up the d…

just for reference , philly and new york had good draft people. we havent . so this is a big draft for spags to be successful. but it will be a 2-3 year process. too many misses before in the draft..my draft record for 10 years , we would have had harrison over kennison , george over phillips , polamalu , revis , clady , cutler , moss , wayne , stroud , clements , etc. then where would the rams be?? call me devaney…

Every team can look back and make those claims. It is like when the Rams lose 30-10 and on the post game they say if we didn’t give up those 3 50 yards touchdown runs, the numbers were really good. Well you did let up those runs, because you were bad. This draft and the next couple have to be nails. Tomorrow will be interesing.

Rams need defence real bad they have to draft first and second on defence then 3 and 4th wr then later offensive line thats what the Rams need to do if not they should hire me to do the picks for them because anyother way they will again be able to win only maybe 4 games this year

Welcome again Luis but I do not think you are going to get your wish. The only player at #2 on defense they would possibly take is Curry and I just don’t think that will happen. They can take Smith who should help the run and pass games. Then in the 2nd round I really want to fill in a LB. The Rams have some holes you have to remember the WRs you want to draft will not play in 09′. The Rams probably already have the starting WRs that will take the field every week. You win in the trenches in the NFL. Look for the Rams to keep adding lineman. The Giants and Eagles draft that way and Spaagnuolo comes from an NFC East pedigree.

didnt happen. one lineman , one dt , one wr , one rb , one qb , one cb ,one lb . i think we showed the league today why we draft number two every year. look at the giants , philly , new england and the jets. make a move to get who you want and be creative. waiting isnt the answer. and to say you have no partners to trade with shows you have no talent they want. bulger , barron and no wr’s tells me steven jackson is going to have a long year . and so are we , the fans. see you at number one pick party next year. we are on the clock. again.

It is early, but today was disappointing. Coming from an NFC East pedigree I expected to see a lot of lineman on day two and we only picked up one and at DT which is not as important as getting another tackle, guard, or DE. A very confusing day indeed.
