Rams to Give Colt a Look
According to ESPN’s James Walker, the Rams plan to hold a private workout with former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy at some point before the draft. I can’t say I’m overly surprised here, as the team is likely just covering all of their bases heading into one of the most important drafts in franchise history, but it is interesting to note that McCoy is starting to rise up draft boards a bit thanks to his excellent accuracy. Let’s be honest: Colt McCoy is no Sam Bradford. He is a bit undersized, he is coming off a shoulder injury (just like Bradford), and he [...]
Bradford Wows at Pro Day
Monday, March 29 has been circled on the St. Louis Rams calender for several weeks, and everyone from the organization who was in attendance in Norman, Oklahoma today came away from quarterback Sam Bradford’s pro day workout with huge smiles on their faces. The young signal-caller was everything we expected and more as he took to the field today, and he truly solidified himself as the top prospect heading into this year’s draft. He was in outstanding shape, and he went through the entire 63-throw workout (13 warm-ups and 50 passes) without showing hardly any fatigue. Oh yeah, I almost [...]
Weekend Update Tidbits
Sorry for the lack of info over the last few days, but things have been pretty crazy around here as of late. To make up for it, I have a few different pieces of news to touch on today. First, I was watching Jim Rome is Burning on Thursday, and former Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce was a guest on the show. It was a fairly interesting interview, but the biggest surprise was when Pierce mentioned that he has talked to several teams about playing next season, most noteably the Rams. He seemed extremely interesting in reuniting with Coach Spags, much [...]
Internet Rumors are Flying
For anyone who spent some time surfing the net and checking out sports sights today, you have probably already heard the rumors. For anyone who isn’t aware, a story was released in a Philadelphia news publication today that the Rams and Eagles are close to a deal that would send quarterback Donovan McNabb to St. Louis is exchange for the 33rd pick in this year’s draft as well as safety OJ Atogwe. Before you start freaking out like I did, keep in mind that several upper-level Rams execs including GM Billy Devaney have denied the rumor, and Devaney went so [...]
NFL Adopts New Overtime Rule
With things fairly quiet on the Rams front today, let’s focus on the biggest news to hit the NFL recently, the vote on the new overtime rule that passed today. NFL owners voted 28-4 in favor of the new rule that will not allow a team to win an overtime playoff game with a first drive field goal. The rule is a bit confusing, but the deal is pretty much that a team will not be able to win a playoff game by taking the opening kickoff, driving down the field, and then kicking a field goal. If a team [...]
Rams Sign More Former Giants
Continuing a fairly obvious trend that has developed since Steve Spagnuolo took over as head coach in St. Louis, the Rams signed two former Giants to contracts on Monday. Cornerback Kevin Dockery and tight end Darcy Johnson were both inked by the team for the 2010 season earlier today. Dockery should provide some nice depth in the secondary, but he likely won’t be much more than a nickel back and special teams player assuming the players in front of him stay healthy. Johnson will also be more of a depth player than anything this season, but he can block a [...]
Potential Owner Making Friends
Post-Dispatch writer Bernie Miklasz is reporting that potential new owner Shahid Khan has been making a good impression on many NFL big boys over the past few weeks as he awaits a vote from the league on his proposal to buy the team. Khan has reportedly been making his rounds meeting with other owners in an effort to convince the league that he is worthy of joining their fraternity, and apparently his efforts are not going unnoticed. If Khan is to buy the team, he will need three-fourths of the other owners to vote in his favor. While the league [...]
Rams meet with Bradford Again
Some big news regarding the direction the Rams could be leaning with the number one overall pick leaked today as a league source is reporting that GM Billy Devaney and OC pat Shurmur met with Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford in Florida earlier this week. The two sides apparently talked football and about the status of Bradford’s injured shoulder during the meeting, and Devaney and Shurmur also met with Dr. James Andrews, the man who performed the surgery. Bradford has his pro day scheduled for March 29, and apparently the Rams want to have all of the information possible heading into that [...]
More Free Agency News
Before I get to the Rams stuff, I want to let everyone know that this will be a short one due to the NCAA tournament. We have two HD flat screens in the living room rigged up to make sure we don’t miss a minute of action, the grill is lit, and the cooler is iced down. Moving on to football, the biggest news to come out today is the Eagles release of wide receiver Kevin Curtis. Curtis, a former Ram, is a guy who possesses great speed and excellent knowledge of the offense. He showed the ability to be a [...]
Fast Willie Parker Visiting Rams
With the Rams looking to add some depth behind All-Pro Steven Jackson at running back, the team has scheduled a visit with former Steeler Willie Parker on Friday. Parker has spent his entire seven year career in Pittsburgh, and he would seemingly be a very nice fit for St. Louis. He has lost a step as his career has progressed, but he still has enough left in the tank to be an excellent complement to Jackson. He ran for over 1,000 yards for three straight seasons from 2005-2007, and he became an elite back in 2006, when he rushed for 1,494 [...]
