Rams-Lions Preview

Week 5 is upon us, and the Rams have another winnable game Sunday when they travel to MoTown to face the Detroit Lions. Here are some things to look for when the teams kick off on at noon on Sunday.

Calvin Johnson – This man is an absolute machine, and I am convinced that he is one of the top 2-or-3 receivers in the game. That being said, the Rams need to make sure they keep him in check on Sunday. The secondary has been very good so far this season, and Ron Bartell and Bradley Fletcher need to step up and get Calvin locked down in this game. With Shawn Hill at QB, we can’t let their passing game beat us.

Ndmaukong Suh – Suh is all fired up about the Rams passing on him at the top of this year’s draft, and apparently he is on a mission to stick it to us today. He’s a nice player, but there isn’t anyone in St. Louis or anywhere else who would go back and take Suh over Sam Bradford. I can see him giving the Rams some trouble up the middle, but I don’t know if he is capable of impacting the game in a major way just yet. We need to keep him in check, but watch to see how Suh plays on Sunday.

SJ39 – He has been slowed a bit this week from lingering injury problems, but it looks like Jackson will be good to go Sunday. The Lions are going to have to prepare to stop Jackson, and I think Sam Bradford has a chance to take advantage of their secondary in this game. Jackson will have to do his job, but  expect the offense to be able to move the ball throughout the entire game.

Defensive Line – The Rams’ line has been better than expected so far, and they really need to make an impact against the Lions. Hill isn’t a great quarterback by any means, so we need to keep him under pressure all day. He will make mistakes, but he is also capable enough to stand in the pocket and pick us apart if we don’t pressure him. If the front four can get pressure, it will go a long way in keeping weapons like Johnson and Jahvid Best under wraps.
