Rams Riding A Mile High
Before I get to what could be some very big news, let’s take a quick look at yesterday’s win and how the keys to the game panned out for the Rams. Who Are These Guys? – The Rams defense did a nice job stopping the Broncos for about 2 1/2 quarters, and that allowed them to build the big lead. Obviously, the first drive of the game was ugly, and the fourth quarter was awful until the last drive, but overall I was happy with the effort. Brandon Lloyd put up some solid numbers (4 rec, 76 yds, 2 TD), [...]
Rams Hold On In Denver
I’m not going to lie, I was trying to be calm as the fourth quarter wound down on Sunday, but I found myself nervously and feverishly pacing back and forth until the Broncos’ final play from scrimmage. I mean, it’s not like the St. Louis Rams have the best track record in winning close games on the road this season. Today, however, the defense sacked up and got after Kyle Orton on the last drive to seal the 36-33 win. It might not have been the prettiest win, especially in the fourth quarter, but it was a road win nonetheless. [...]
Rams Heading To Denver
It’s Sunday again, and the Rams are going to give winning on the road another go when they take on the Denver Broncos in the Mile High City. This game, like many others the Rams have played on the road this season, is very winnable. It’s getting harder and harder to predict what this team will do on the road, but here are my keys to the Rams getting a notch in the road win column. Who Are These Guys? – If anyone wants to sit there and tell me that they predicted Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd would be [...]
Happy Thanksgiving To All!
First of all, I would like to wish everyone out there a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you all had your fill of turkey and football on this fine day, and I hope you got the opportunity to spend it with family or friends. I did manage to get together with the family this afternoon for some lunch before I had to head off to work, so overall I’d say it was a good day. Since I have missed a few posts due to a crazy work week and the holiday, I thought I should get on here tonight to talk [...]
Putting This One Behind Us
After taking some time to think about yesterday’s loss to the Falcons, I came to the conclusion that the Rams actually played pretty well for most of the game. The defense kept the big guns from Atlanta in check for the most part, and Sam Bradford did a nice job moving the ball. Looking at the stats, the Falcons offense put up some big numbers, but Roddy White never really broke a huge play and he didn’t get in the end zone, and Michael Turner picked up a big chunk of his stats when the game was already decided. There’s [...]
Falcons Take Care Of Rams
I was in attendance for today’s loss to the Falcons, and overall I thought the team played fairly well considering they were defeated by a score of 34-17. I’ll get deeper into the game tomorrow, but my first thought was that the better team won today. The Rams certainly proved they can play with anyone (at least at home), but Atlanta was just a deeper, more balanced squad. I had a couple of issues with the game, first of which was the play-calling. It did look like the team made an effort to throw the ball downfield more today, which [...]
Dirty Birds Coming To The Lou
The Rams have a tough task this weekend when they welcome the Atlanta Falcons to town, but this game is still winnable, so don’t write the Rams off just yet. The team has been outstanding at home this season, and while the Falcons are very good, this team has proven that they can play with anyone in the Dome. Here are the keys to this all-important Week 11 affair. Big Play, Go Away – We found out last week that talented playmakers can give this defense some trouble, and with Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez coming to town, the issue [...]
A Look To The Future
I’m usually not the kind of guy who likes to talk about next season when the team is still kind of in contention, but I wanted to let you all in on a conversation I had the other day. A friend of mine and I were discussing the loss to the Niners, and after my rant on Brandon Gibson, we started talking about what the receiving corps might look like next year. For the sake of argument, and bear with me, we have to assume some things are true, like no one is injured and everyone returns to the team. [...]
Fendi Placed On IR
The Rams placed rookie tight end Fendi Onobun on injured reserve today with a bulging disk in his back, so he is done for the season. To fill the roster spot, the team signed Derek Schouman to the active roster. This is a bit disappointing, but the good news is that he will have time to fully heal without worrying about getting back on the field. He is a project, and I think it’s fair to expect big things of him in the future. Don’t forget, he is a baby when it comes to football experience after playing basketball in [...]
Closer Look At The Loss
My mood is significantly improved today, so let’s look at the Rams loss to the Niners on Sunday. First, let’s see how my keys to the game shaped up. Heisman Showdown – As I was watching the end of Sunday’s game, I finally realized what it is about Troy Smith that made me nervous. The guy is a winner. He did it in college, and he did it again on Sunday. He might not be the best passer or the greatest decision-maker, but when the game is on the line, he finds a way to get it done. On the [...]
