Rams Release Atogwe

In a move that surprised me at first and then, not so much, the Rams released safety OJ Atogwe on Friday. Atogwe was due an $8 million roster bonus on Monday, which is why I’m not at all surprised that the team cut him loose, especially with the uncertainty of the labor agreement upon us. On the bright side, Atogwe said today that he hopes to be back in St. Louis next season, so there are apparently no hard feelings on either side.

It looks like Atogwe will have to wait until after a labor agreement is reached to start looking for a team in 2011, but I fully expect the Rams to have significant interest in bringing him back. It seems like we have gone through this every offseason recently, and this one will be no different. Considering the lack of depth at the safety position, it would be a major mistake in my estimation to let him go. You are going to hear plenty about him over the next couple of months, so be prepared.

PS Don’t forget to vote in the poll about when we will start Draft talk.
