If the Rams are going to pull the upset on Sunday, then some pretty specific things are going to have to happen. First, and probably most important, St. Louis is going to have to find a way to score outside of the offense. It;s no secret that the Rams have struggled putting up points, and the Niners defense is one of the best in the league. If Bradford doesn’t play, that makes is even more important that the team get on the board through their defense or special teams. A kick or punt return for a TD would work, but I’m looking toward the defense. Niners QB Alex Smith has been very good this season, but we know he has had a tendency to throw interceptions in the past.
I wouldn’t expect much from the offense, so this game is squarely on the shoulders of the D. It’s not fair, but that’s the case. This group has to stop the running game, and they need to come up with some big plays if the Rams are going to have a chance. There’s always the possibility that the offense could surprise everyone, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. I’m just hoping they can possess the ball for a reasonable amount of time to give he D a chance to stay fresh. If the Niners are running all over the Rams early on Sunday, it’s going to be a long, long day.
