2014 NFL Draft News and Notes: Recapping Day 1

After months of scouting, big boards and mock drafts, the time has finally come. The 2014 Draft is about to begin, and RamblinFan.com has you covered with minute by minute happenings.

7:36 p.m. EST – 30 top NFL prospects were introduced and lined up for pictures prior to the beginning of the draft.

8:04 p.m. EST – Roger Goodell takes the podium to address the fans. He takes a bit too long and starts to get boed by the Radio City Music Hall attendees. Soon after, Goodell announces that the 2014 NFL Draft is officially underway! The Houston Texans are now on the clock.

8:09 p.m. EST – NFL Network’s Michael Silver interviews Coach Fisher with 5 mins left on the clock for Houston. He said it would take an RG-III type deal to get them off of the number two pick. Fisher had a grin on his face through the entire interview.

8:13 p.m. EST – The pick is in!

8:14 p.m. EST – The Houston Texans select…Jadaveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina. Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel hugs Clowney on his way up to the podium.

8:15 p.m. EST – The Rams are now on the clock.

8:23 p.m. EST – The Rams are still on the clock with 2 minutes left. They are waiting…

8:22 p.m. EST – The pick is in! Michael Irvin is calling for Watkins. NFL Network’s Mike Mayock brings up Barksdale at right tackle and the job he did last season. Notes that they could move Robinson or Barksdale to guard.

8:24 p.m. EST – With the 2nd pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, the Rams select…Greg Robinson!

8:26 p.m. EST – Mayock said he thought of Orlando Pace when he first looked at Robinson. The NFL Network panel said the Rams need to win the line of scrimmage to compete in the NFC West.

8:26 p.m. EST – NFL Network’s Deion Sanders interviews Robinson after being selected. Robinson said he was “speechless” and noted that he’d “give 110%… nothing less.” – The kid is very humble.

8:30 p.m. EST – The pick is in! The Jaguars select…Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida.

8:34 p.m. EST – TRADE. The Bills trade up from number 9 to number 4 with Cleveland!

8:35 p.m. EST – The Bills pick is in with 9 minutes left on the clock!

8:36 p.m. EST – With the number 4 pick, the Bills select…Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson.

8:38 p.m. EST – Sammy Watkins just took a selfie with Commissioner Goodell!

8:40 p.m. EST – The Raiders pick is in!

8:42 p.m. EST – The Raiders select…Khalil Mack, DE/LB, Buffalo.

8:49 p.m. EST – The Falcons pick is in!

8:50 p.m. EST – The Falcons select…Jake Matthews, T, Texas A&M.

8:58  p.m. EST – The Buccaneers pick is in! With the 7th overall pick, the Bucs select…Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M. The Bucs now have a offense with two big-time receivers and two good running backs.

9:01  p.m. EST – TRADE. The Browns trade out of number 9 to number 8 with Minnesota.

9:04 p.m. EST – The Browns select…Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State. Hayden and Gilbert will be a great duo for years to come. They will probably address the QB position in round two.

9:08  p.m. EST – The Vikings pick is in!

9:11 p.m. EST – With the 9th pick in the draft, the Vikings select…Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA.

9:11 p.m. EST – The Lions pick is in!

9:13 p.m. EST – Barry Sanders makes the selection for the Lions. He also makes a shameless Madden cover plug. They select…Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina.

9:20 p.m. EST – The Titans pick is in!

9:21 p.m. EST – With the 11th pick, the Titans select…Taylor Lewan, T, Michigan.

9:26 p.m. EST – The Giants pick is in!

9:27 p.m. EST – With the 12th pick, the Giants select…Odell Beckam Jr., WR, LSU.

9:30 p.m. EST – Aaron Donald is available, Manziel is available, CB’s and safeties available. Who will the Rams chose?

9:34 p.m. EST – The Rams select…Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt. Mayock likens him to Geno Atkins. Will he take over Kendall Langford’s job right away, or will be merely be a rotational DT when the season opens?

9:40 p.m. EST – The Bears pick is in!
