St. Louis Rams To Interview Kyle Shanahan, Greg Roman for Offensive Coordinator

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the St. Louis Rams have requested permission to interview San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman and former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for their open offensive coordinator position.

Neither name should come as much of a surprise, as both have been names that have been brought up as possible candidates for the position.

Both Shanahan and Roman fit the philosophy that Jeff Fisher likes to run. Shanahan is also a ground and pound coach who has found some success in Houston, Washington, and even with a Brian Hoyer lead Cleveland team.

However, the former Browns offensive coordinator has been a hot name around the league for possible head coaching jobs. He has already interviewed for the opening with the Buffalo Bills and is a top coordinator choice for new coaches.

While Shanahan would be nice, as unlike the former Rams coordinator Schottenheimer he has had results not just because of his last name, it still seems like a stretch with how many team are also interested.

Roman also makes a lot of sense from a philosophical perspective. He has had success with a ground lead attack in San Francisco as well as not turning the ball over. Not to mention he is very familiar with the NFC West opponents.

Roman, like Shanahan, has also been a hot name for other offensive coordinator positions. He is still under contract with the 49ers and he’s also interviewed for the Bills head coaching position as well as the coordinator position with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is also scheduled to interview with the Jaguars and Browns.

The Rams have started their search for a new offensive coordinator, but the process in just beginning. Jeff Fisher may have to make his move sooner than expected or some of the big names could be gone.
