Who Should The St. Louis Rams Target During Free Agency?

With free agency kicking off in just over a week, it will be interesting to see what the St. Louis Rams will look to do. After big name signings like Jake Long and Cortland Finnegan during the Les Snead era, nothing can be left off the table.

While they should be cautious about overpaying players like they have in the past, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t make some sort of splash. Cutting Scott Wells as well as possibly Jake Long, the Rams could open enough cap space to make significant improvements.

1. OG Clint Boling

Still just 25 years of age with upside potential, Clint Boling has yet to hit the peak of his career. The Rams’ offensive line allowed an average of almost three sacs per game this season, so an overhaul upfront seems imminent. With Jake Long injury-prone on a big-money contract and likely to be cut, Greg Robinson will be the full-time left tackle next season, meaning a guard is needed to fill that void.

Davin Joseph was a liability last season, solidifying inside is a must and Boling is a good start to do that.

2. WR Michael Crabtree

If the Rams  are unable to re-sign Kenny Britt, they are going to need to bring in another veteran. Quick hyped on the help that Britt brought and Crabtree can do the same. After a disappoint 2014, there is a chance he won’t be as pricey than if he would have had a successful one.

The former first rounder has been disappointing for the 49ers, but this could be a signing with a high reward. There is no doubt Crabtree has talent, if the Rams can get him at the right price, there is no question they should go for it.

3. CB Chris Culliver

Another 49er that the Rams should target is Culliver. While the Rams do have solid corners in Johnson, Jenkins, and Gaines, there is no question they need depth as well as a veteran presence. Rated the 14th best corner on Pro Football Focus, Culliver surrendered only a 50.7 completion percentage to opposing receivers.

He did miss all of 2013 with an ACL tear, but he bounced back and proved he can still play at a high level.

4. C Rodney Hudson

The Rams should be cutting Scott Wells, its only a matter of when. While drafting a guy like Cameron Erving would be nice, Jeff Fisher likes his veteran centers and Hudson played like one of the best centers in 2014.

As mentioned earlier the Rams must get better on the interior of the offensive line, and Hudson would be a big step in the right direction in that area.

5. OLB Bruce Carter

While Carter does fit better in a 3-4, he didnt play all that bad in a 4-3 last season with a Cowboys defense that played over their heads some of the time. Jo-Lonn Dunbar just can’t get the job done anymore and while using Mark Barron in an outside linebacker role did work at times last year, bringing in an improvement over Dunbar should be a priority.
