St. Louis Rams Weekly Mailbag: Free Agency and The Draft

facebooktwitterreddit

This week is going to start the first week of our St. Louis Rams fan mailbag. Every week I will ask readers to Tweet @ramblinfan, your questions.  I am no expert by any means, but I will do my best to answer your questions. If you do not have Twitter, I will also do my best to answer questions in the comment section below or you can e-mail them to me at grisak.b@gmercyu.edu, just make sure to put Ramblin’ Fan Mailbag in the subject line.

Having Steven Jackson would be nice, he gave an awful lot to this franchise over the years. Eight straight 1,000 yard seasons along with over 2,000 all purpose yards in 2006 are both great accomplishments.

However, at this point in SJ39’s career, I would accept nothing more than a one day contract to retire. He’s 31 and has a lot of miles on the tires. Not to mention the Rams already have a deep backfield with Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, and Zac Stacy.

Britt and Kendricks at this point are signed. Two very important re-signings for the Rams this offseason. They also went ahead and addressed the position we dont need, defensive line. There are still major questions up front on offense, and while they could still sign a player or two next week. at this point I would start to look more towards the draft. Somebody like Brandon Scherff, Cameron Erving, Reese Dismukes, and Gabe Jackson would all be solid guys to come in and possibly start and be successful. The Rams have under $10-million left in cap space, therefore, most likely they will only be able to bring in one of the three top offensive line targets in Blalock, Wisniewski, and Barksdale unless they somehow open up more cap.

As mentioned earlier, Britt has been signed. However, this is still an intriguing question. After signing Britt, will the Rams still go after a wide receiver in free agency or the draft? Unless they get one for dirt cheap in free agency, I dont see them signing one as they did just lock up Britt, however, I do believe drafting one is still a possibility.

Maybe not an Amari Cooper or Kevin White in the first round like many had hoped, but a Dorial Green-Beckham in the second round does make some sense. This draft is deep at wide receiver, therefore it wouldnt surprise me if the Rams brought a young guy in.

Now making star appearances in our mailbag this week are Rams writers Nick Wagoner and Jim Thomas. We haven’t had much information on the status of Brian Quick this offseason, therefore, I decided to get their input.

It sounds like Quick could be limited at the start of training camp and is questionable for the start of the regular season. From what Wagoner and Thomas are saying, it was a pretty serious injury. Quick separated his shoulder and tore his rotator cuff.

Like I told Wagoner, I believe it’s better off to take it slow with something like this than risk re-injury like what happened last year with Long and Bradford.

That’s all we have for this week. Remember, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comment section below, tweet them to me at @ramblinfan, or e-mail me grisak.b@gmercyu.edu.
