St. Louis Rams Sign Garrett Reynolds

The St. Louis Rams finally addressed their offensive line, but not in the way that many might have expected. Instead of signing Stefen Wisniewski, Justin Blalock, or bringing back Joe Barksdale, the Rams signed offensive lineman, Garrett Reynolds.

Originally a fifth-round pick by the Falcons in 2009, Reynolds has shown the versatility to play both guard and tackle, as saw significant time at both positions for the Lions last year.

The offensive lineman played started 23 games for Atlanta before signing with Detroit as a free agent in July of last year. While he was released in the last round of cuts in August, the Lions re-signed Reynolds a week into the season and he played in 10 games, making four starts in 2014.

According to the St. Louis Rams website, Garrett is the nephew of Jack”Hacksaw” Reynolds who spent 14 years in the NFL, playing with the Rams from 1970-1980. Garrett is nowhere near the player that his uncle was, but he will be a good depth signing.

Why This Move Makes Sense

The Rams needed offensive line, its plain and simple. They are extremely thin at that position. Reynolds is versatile as he can play both guard and tackle, therefore, from that standpoint, this move makes a lot of sense.

Why This Move Doesn’t Make Sense

With players like Wisniewski and Blalock out there, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for the Rams to go after a guy like Reynolds other than to add depth. If they think he is going to start, then they are in trouble right now.

There are options on the market for the Rams to fix their offensive line, its just a matter of bringing that player in. With Sam Bradford gone, they can no longer use the excuse that they dont have the cap space, because they should easily be able to bring in one, if not two of the top offensive linemen in free agency.
