Report: Multiple Teams Interested In Michael Brockers

Earlier this week there was a report that the St. Louis Rams were shopping defensive tackle Michael Brockers and that they were looking to swap picks with the Chicago Bears. While that report later died, it has now expanded to multiple teams being interested.

According to Tony Pauline of NFL Draft Insider, multiple teams have been calling the Rams about Brockers. The report says that the Cowboys, Texans, Dolphins, and Cardinals have been trying to strike a deal with St. Louis.

As I said when the Rams were reportedly trying to trade picks with Chicago, this sort of deal does make sense. The Rams acquired Nick Fairley in the offseason who could very easily take over Brockers’ spot on the defensive line.

With all of these teams interested aside from the Dolphins and Texans being after pick 20, if the Rams could trade Brockers and maybe a couple of mid-round picks to one of those teams to move up from their second round pick(41) to take a guy like Cameron Erving, it would be a worthy trade.

The fact of the matter is whether the Rams swap with the Bears to take Scherff or trade with Dallas at 27 to get Erving, they would be trading away a small piece of a position where they have a lot of depth to get a solid player of a position where they have three starters as of right now.

Putting player attachments aside, if the Rams could trade Brockers to get not one, but two solid offensive lineman(Scherff/Flowers at 10 and Erving at 27), it would be a deal that is well worth losing a talent like Brockers.

While the defensive tackle hasn’t disappointed in his time in St. Louis, he hasn’t been all that impressive either. It is likely that if Fairley outperforms Brockers, like Langford, he could get lost in the rotation.

Before the draft the rumors are starting to pile in. Stay tuned for more
