St. Louis Rams’ Top 5 Players on Roster

When looking at the current roster, it is very tough to decide the top five players on the St. Louis Rams. Do certain

positions count more than others? Does age come into effect? Most teams in the NFL have a clear-cut top three with the last two players being a toss-up. But, with the this Rams team so different from a year ago, the potential is through the roof.

without further adieu, here is my top five, in no specific order.

 1) Nick Foles

If your quarterback isn’t one of your best five players on your team, then the odds are your team isn’t very good. Foles is coming off of a broken collarbone, but when healthy is a top 10 quarterback in the NFL. His 2013 statistics speak for themselves. And a lot like the Eagles team of 2013, no receiver was elite while the running game was top-tier. Foles will also have two great tight ends as well as several solid receivers to throw the ball too. Foles excells with a great running attack, and with the current running backs on the roster, this is setting up great for Foles to succeed. Foles deserves a spot in the top five without a doubt.

2) Alec Ogletree

Ogletree has been a force in the NFL ever since being drafted out of the University of Georgia. Ogletree racked up 111 tackles as well as was tied for second in the NFL in forced fumbles with four. As a rookie, Ogletree forced six fumbles and racked up 117 total tackles. Heading into just his third year in the NFL, Ogletree is the staple linebacker of this Rams defense.

3) Robert Quinn

Quinn can flat-out get after the quarterback. He puts his hand in the dirt, sets the edge and makes his paycheck racking up as many sacks as he can. And in 2013, he secured 19 of them, good enough for second in the NFL. Quinn was only four sacks away from breaking Michael Strahan’s single season sacks record which currently sits at 22.5. On top of his sack total, Quinn forced seven fumbles, also second best in the NFL. In 2014, Quinn had a very solid year. 10.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and six pass deflections. His 5 forced fumbles was tied for first in the NFL. Quinn is clearly one of the Rams’ top five players, if not the best.

4) Todd Gurley

The #Tankforgurley movement took Twitter by storm in the early part of the 2014 college football season. And for good reason. Gurley ranks second to the great Herschel Walker in career rushing yards in Bulldogs history with 3,285 yards. Gurley found the endzone 44 times in 30 career games, which is a ridiculous statistic. But, after a torn ACL  in 2014, Gurley heads into 2015 with a chip on his shoulder. Skeptics will continue to doubt Gurley until he steps out onto the field. But when he does, the skeptics will silence, and Gurley will ink himself as one of the Rams’ top five players on the roster.

5) Aaron Donald

Donald, a first round pick of the Rams in the 2014 NFL draft, might have been the best pick in that spot out of anyone else in the NFL. Donald as a defensive tackle, sacked the quarterback nine times, good enough for the second most for a tackle in the NFL. Donald sacked Russell Wilson twice and Colin Kaepernick once while also sacking Peyton Manning and Robert Griffin III as well. As an undersized tackle, Donald has excellent speed, which was a big part of his success. As a rookie, Donald made the Pro Bowl and ranked in the top 100 players of 2015. Donald deserves a spot as one of the Rams’ top five players.

Honorable mentions: T.J. McDonald (SS) , Janoris Jenkins (CB),  James Laurinaitis (LB)

This list includes two players who have never played a game for the Rams as well as a second-year player. McDonald was very close to making my list. But, you cannot go wrong with the top five I named. A running back drafted in the top 10 with a knee injury shows how good this kid can be. So without a doubt, Gurley is a top five player on this team. The other four speak for themselves.
