St. Louis Rams: Thoughts to sleep on

As we wrap up the day here at Ramblin’ Fan we like to munch on a little late night snack of brain food. Preferably about the good things to come in the future for this young team. As much talent as the Rams have heading into 2015, and it appears on paper to be more than past years, it is very difficult to be successful in this league at such a young age. 2015 looks to keep the Rams listed as the youngest team in the league with an average age of just over 25.

With age comes experience. With experience comes wisdom. Both of those are invaluable in the NFL to help young players to develop into all-pro players. There is something to be said for the magic and intense emotions a young team that goes on a run can stir up in a fan base though, but it’s always good to take these things with a dose of reality as well.

It will be tough for the 2015 Rams to make the playoffs. Let’s not make any bones about it. Looking at the schedule, ranked the 6th hardest in the league with an opponents win percentage over .550, it’s tough to see a record better than 8-8 or 9-7. If they can overachieve 10-6 may be good enough for a division that will likely produce one of two wild card teams. St. Louis would need a few stars to align for that scenario.

With stretches of winnable games weeks 7-9 (Browns, 49ers, @Vikings), and then again weeks 13-15 (Cardinals, Lions, Buccaneers) this years squad will need to be consistent to make their mark. The history books were made for years like this. This roster, while it may not be bursting at the seams with pro bowlers, it does have a sense of pride and confidence that you can only find with young athletes. So here’s to what could be a season to remember.
