Todd Gurley looking to start Training Camp on time

Reports are rolling in that the Rams first round pick Todd Gurley is targeting a return for the beginning of training camp. Gurley is coming up on eight months removed from tearing his ACL while playing for Georgia. NFL.com’s Kevin Patra reports Gurley has picked up the offense well, even though he has been relegated to rehab work through out most of OTA’s. Patra passed along the following:

"“It’s been going pretty good,” Gurley said. “When we first came in with the rookies for minicamp, you get the install those three days and then OTAs came around, it kind of slows (the offense) down a little bit because you get to have more practices and a lot more meetings. So it’s been coming a long pretty good so far.”"

Obviously, having Gurley healthy in time for training camp would be a huge boost to this offense. Head coach Jeff Fisher is looking to change gears a bit after trading quarterback Sam Bradford. Fisher is well known as a run-first coach and the pairing of Gurley and returning starter Tre Mason, has Rams fans licking their lips at the potential for a dominant run game.

Gurley injured is knee in November of 2014 in what would prove to not only be the final play of the game, but his college career. Gurley’s No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs were about to put the finishing touches on an impressive win over No.9 Auburn, when Gurley would go down with the ACL injury. Fresh off his four game suspension from the NCAA for receiving monetary gains on signing memorabilia, Gurley would buckle his left knee and eventually require surgery. His draft prospects looked very bleak very quickly.

The Rams stunned many when they selected Gurley with the tenth overall selection in the first round. Many had projected Gurley to fall into the third round after such a devastating injury. Many didn’t expect such quick turn around given the seriousness of this type of injury for a running back, but he seems to be defying the odds.
