Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher continues to make what he hopes to be improvements to the coaching staff. According to Turf Show Times and SI, the Rams have hired former Chicago Bears running back coach for the same position.

Peete has plenty of experience coaching running backs as he has coached the position for much of the past two decades. He coached the Bears running backs from 2013-2014, Dallas Cowboys running backs from 2007-2012, and Oakland Raiders running backs from 1998-2006. He also has experience in the college game as he coached at UCLA and Michigan State.

The former Bears running back coach helped Raiders’ running back LaMont Jordan to a 1,000 yard season in 2005, his only 1,000 yard season and Charlie Garner to 962 yards, the third best in his career. He coached Felix Jones to an 800 yard season in 2010, his career high, and Marion Barber had his three best seasons under Peete. In his most recent stunt in Chicago, Peete coached Matt Forte to a career high 1,339 yards and nine touchdowns in 2013.

This is the second former Bears coach that the Rams have hired within the last week. The Rams also hired Jeff Groh, the Bears wide receiver coach to help with the passing game as well as coach the receivers.

The good news for Peete is that he’s walking into a pretty good situation with the Rams as they arguably have the best running back in the NFL on their roster. With talent such as Todd Gurley, Tre Mason, and Benny Cunningham, Peete will be coaching some pretty good players.

At least from the surface, it looks like the Rams have made some improvements to their coaching staff, and for a team that is criticized on their coaching, that is a good thing. Fisher will still be the head coach which is problematic, but they have made improvements, and for the time being, that’s all you can for.
