The Los Angeles Rams will have plenty of work cut out for them when facing off against Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions in Week  6.

After losing Calvin Johnson to retirement, nobody knew what to expect from Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions on offense during the 2016 season, but last weekend’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles is the perfect example of how this squad will be just fine.

Even though it was closer than it should have been in the second half, the Lions found a way to hand the Eagles their first loss of the season in Week 5 thanks to a solid performance by Stafford in the passing game. Despite receiving all sorts of pressure from Philadelphia’s defense, the three touchdowns by Stafford in the first half shows just how dangerous the quarterback can be when he gets rolling on offense.

And with Los Angeles dealing with injuries at cornerback, the defense needs to be extra cautious when it comes to keeping Stafford in line.

The Lions may not have a clear No. 1 wide receiver, but that’s what makes them even more dangerous as any player seems capable of breaking out each week. From Marvin Jones to Golden Tate to even Anquan Boldin, Stafford knows he’s going to need one of these players to step it up in the passing game, especially with Theo Riddick already being ruled out.

Throughout his career, Stafford has always been the type of quarterback that makes the players around him better, and it may still be early, but that appears to be the case once again in 2016. There’s nothing Stafford would love more than another strong performance through the air against Los Angeles like he did against Philadelphia to get Detroit back to .500 with a 3-3 record.

For the sake of the Rams, let’s hope the defense is up for the challenge on Sunday.
