The Los Angeles Rams hope Kenny Britt can give the team their first 1,000-yard receiver since 2007.

After finishing near the bottom of the league in offense last year, the Los Angeles Rams knew there was a good chance they would have one of the weakest receiving corps once again in 2016.

So far, that has been the case as Tavon Austin, who received a $42 million extension in the preseason, has struggled to handle the duties of a No. 1 wide receiver, but at least Kenny Britt has given the Rams hope about ending a disastrous streak.

As embarrassing as it sounds, the organization hasn’t seen a wide receiver break the 1,000-yard mark since Torry Holt in 2007 (1,189 receiving yards). In fact, the closest player to put an end to that streak happens to be Britt during his first season with the team in 2014 when he caught 48 passes for 748 yards.

In seven games this season, Britt has been one of the lone highlights of the Los Angeles passing game as he leads the team with 33 catches for 535 yards to go along with two touchdowns. What’s even more sad is the 535 receiving yards already recorded by Britt tops Austin’s career high, which is the last thing any team wants to hear about their No. 1 wide receiver.

So does Britt have what it takes to become the first 1,000-yard receiver since 2007? As long as he remains healthy, all points to yes with Los Angeles sitting at 3-4 heading into their bye week.

Of course, whether that happen for Britt could also come down to which quarterback is throwing the football as Case Keenum‘s recent struggles have fans pushing to see Jared Goff take over the starting role at quarterback for the Rams.
