If any member of the Los Angeles Rams would benefit the most from the team hiring Josh McDaniels as the next head coach, it would be Jared Goff.

From Kyle Shanahan to David Shaw, there are plenty of head coaches being linked to the Los Angeles Rams when it comes to searching for their next head coach after the team decided to part ways with Jeff Fisher this week. However, Josh McDaniels may be the team’s top target for their next head coach, and it’s easy to understand why when looking at the amount of success he’s had as offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots since coming on board during the 2012 season.

Things may not have worked out for McDaniels when he took his first head coaching job with the Denver Broncos from 2009-10, but it’s safe to say he’s learned enough since then as he seems ready for a second chance to prove himself. While McDaniels has received plenty of praise over the years for helping the Patriots’ offense consistently rank near the top of the league, his success from the beginning of the season without Tom Brady is the perfect example of why he’s ready for another opportunity as a head coach.

It’s never easy for a team to lose one of their star players, let alone a future Hall of Famer in Brady. But McDaniels found a way to help this offense be successful early on without Brady and Rob Gronkowski while playing with Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback.

If McDaniels managed to find a way to be this successful with a quarterback like Garoppolo, just imagine the potential he would have with an opportunity to develop a young quarterback like Jared Goff. The former California star has experienced plenty of struggles during his rookie season as he clearly still has plenty of areas to work on, but Goff also deserves the benefit of the doubt for having one of the league’s weakest receiving corps.

Hopefully, McDaniels strongly considers joining the Los Angeles as their next head coach if given the opportunity, assuming he does decide he wants to give head coaching another shot. The asking price may not be cheap, but when looking at all of the future draft picks the Rams traded to land Goff, McDaniels would certainly be worth the investment when looking at his history of success with developing quarterbacks.
