Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams continue to add new members to their coaching staff after bringing Joe Barry on board as an assistant.

It’s been a busy week for the Los Angeles Rams after making NFL history by naming 30-year-old Sean McVay the youngest head coach heading into the 2017 season. When seeing how fast all of the head-coaching positions were filling up around the league, the Rams wanted to make sure they locked up McVay before another team was able to move in and snag him up.

Shortly after he was hired as head coach for Los Angeles, McVay wasted no time bringing on Wade Phillips as the team’s defensive coordinator, and it appears the additions are continuing throughout the weekend as well. According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, McVay and the Rams have named former Washington Redskins defensive coordinator Joe Barry as part of the new coaching staff.

A few days after the regular season officially came to an end, the Redskins decided to part ways with Barry after the defense ranked near the bottom of the league in 2016, which was even more frustrating when seeing all of the money invested in Josh Norman. Now, it looks like Barry will have a fresh start with a familiar face in Los Angeles as an assistant to McVay along with being responsible for coaching the linebackers.

Only time will tell when it comes to whether these additions to the coaching staff will pay off for the Rams, but it’s tough not to be excited about the potential surrounding the new additions. Expectations were high for Los Angeles on defense at the beginning of the year after finishing in the top 10 the previous season, but the unit struggled for a majority of 2016.

Hopefully, these changes with the coaching staff are just what the Rams need to compete with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals next year for the NFC West title.
