Even though the Los Angeles Rams need help at wide receiver, the team needs to avoid signing Victor Cruz.

When it comes to areas the Los Angeles Rams need to focus on improving in the offseason, wide receiver ranks near the top of the list after seeing the struggles during the 2016 season. One name that has become available following his release from the New York Giants is Victor Cruz, and while he would have made a great addition a few years ago, this is the last player the Rams need to bring on for Jared Goff in the passing game.

Pre-2014, Cruz would have made a great addition for Los Angeles in the passing game when considering he was one of the most dangerous receivers in the league, but that hasn’t been the case over the last three years. Ever since he suffered a torn patellar tendon in the middle of the 2014 season, Cruz just hasn’t been the same effective player he used to be, and rightfully so when seeing the seriousness of the injury.

By releasing Cruz, the Giants were able to free up $7.5 million in cap space, which was clearly the right decision on their end when seeing the current group of young receivers they have to work with heading into the 2017 season. As for the possibility of Cruz joining the Rams, let’s just say the numbers alone from 2016 should be a strong enough case to make sure the team avoids bringing him on board for next season.

The fact that Cruz started 12 of 15 games for New York and only finished with 39 catches for 586 yards with a touchdown shows Los Angeles shouldn’t even consider adding the veteran. There are plenty of better options at wide receiver such as DeSean Jackson or Alshon Jeffery the Rams should focus on instead of Cruz, as they look to provide their beloved quarterback in Goff with better options to work with heading into his second season.

If Los Angeles did decide on bringing Cruz on board, well let’s just say there’s a good chance he would turn into just as much of a disappointment as Tavon Austin in the passing game.
