Should Rams Consider Trading For Sheldon Richardson From Jets?

The Los Angeles Rams may want to reach out to the New York Jets to discuss a trade for defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.

There’s plenty of excitement surrounding the defense of the Los Angeles Rams now that Wade Phillips has been hired to work as part of Sean McVay‘s staff for the 2017 season, and rightfully so when looking at his successful history as a defensive coordinator. While most of the attention will be focused on how Phillips works with defensive superstar Aaron Donald to help this unit reach a new level, the team may want to consider a possible trade with the New York Jets for Sheldon Richardson.

Our friends at Turf Show Times made sure to copy Phillips on a report released by Rotoworld regarding how the Jets will try to trade the defensive tackle over the next couple of weeks, as the team looks to rebuild after last year’s 5-11 finish. New York made the decision to pickup Richardson’s fifth-year option last April, but after only recording 1.5 sacks in 2016, it appears the team is trying to save some money by finding a new home for the former first-round pick.

Obviously, the chances of Los Angeles landing Richardson may seem like a long shot when considering the team most likely doesn’t want to surrender any more future draft picks, but it’s certainly not the craziest idea in the world. There’s a reason why Richardson was a first-round pick back in 2013, and it should also be noted he managed to reach the Pro Bowl during his sophomore year after recording eight sacks for the Jets.

All signs point to Richardson wanting a fresh start with a new team, and if any defensive coordinator was capable of getting the best out of the former Missouri star, it’s Phillips.
