The Los Angeles Rams will face the Los Angeles Chargers in the national spotlight during Week 3 of the 2017 NFL preseason.

Even though the NFL Draft is less than three weeks away, the release of the 2017 NFL preseason schedule has been a hot topic of discussion over the last two days, especially for the Los Angeles Rams, as the team has plenty of reasons to be excited about next year. After five losing seasons under Jeff Fisher, the Rams can’t wait to see what new head coach Sean McVay brings to the table during his first year running the show, beginning in Week 1 of the preseason against the Dallas Cowboys.

On Monday, Los Angeles officially released their schedule for preseason in August, and while all four games should be solid tests for the team, that one matchup that sticks out the most comes in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers. One year after the Rams made the big move to Los Angeles, the Chargers did the same shortly after the 2016 season came to an end, as there will now be a new friendly rivalry in the city.

What’s even more exciting is when the Rams and Chargers do square off against one another in Week 3 of the preseason, they will get the opportunity to do so while playing in the national spotlight. With all of the hype surrounding Los Angeles having two NFL teams, CBS decided this game would be worth broadcasting in the national spotlight, and what makes this even more exciting is this tends to be the preseason game in which the starters play the most.

For the Rams, this means there’s a good chance McVay will look to use Jared Goff as much as possible to help prepare the second-year quarterback for the 2017 season. Expectations are high for the former California star when considering Los Angeles basically surrendered the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft to the Tennessee Titans in order to bring Goff on board last year, and it will be interesting to see the type of progress made compared to his rookie season.
