Los Angeles Rams fans’ think drafting a receiver in the second round is a smart thing to do.

The Los Angeles Rams appear to be on the verge of a draft focused on three key areas: solving the riddle at wide receiver, someone to challenge and backup Tyler Higbee at tight end, and cornerback.

Easier said than done?

The Rams have the benefit of time as a lot will happen before they pick the 37th overall player on Friday. Still, and I believe most importantly for this team, Los Angeles continues tracking toward the offensive side of the football with that selection.

One intriguing note comes from Matt Miller at Bleacher Report. He’s is reporting that the Rams may trade back some in the second round to collect some extra picks. With the depth at skill positions like those Los Angeles needs, moving back may benefit this team over the weekend.

Something else of interest is a small piece by the staff at ESPN who polled Rams fans to get their take on the draft. In thier sample, 64% believe LA should take a wide receiver, while drafting a cornerback garnered a small percentage of 14% as the selection in round 2. Perhaps even more interesting is the overwhelming majority, 63%, who believes that trading down is a mistake.

It’s worth reminding that General Manager Les Snead doesn’t necessarily need a “home run” this weekend in Philadelphia. But he does need a couple of doubles and maybe a triple when all is said and done.

As for me, the Rams sliding down a few slots to secure additional picks could make the 2017 NFL Draft a solid bookend to their selection of Jared Goff last year.
