Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay chimed in on the contract situation with defensive superstar Aaron Donald.

Between Thursday’s trade involving Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions and Aaron Donald‘s contract situation, the Los Angeles Rams have certainly kept themselves busy over the last few days during minicamp. But despite everything that’s been going on, the important factor is that Donald was there for his teammates when it mattered the most by showing up on Tuesday, despite how unhappy he may seem over his contract situation.

One of the biggest stories heading into minicamp this week was whether Donald would show up after the defensive standout’s absence from organized team activities seemed to be contract related. Earlier in the offseason, it was a no brainer for Los Angeles to pickup the fifth-year option on the former first-round pick, but based off the impact he’s made on the defense in just three seasons, rewarding Donald with a long-term deal he clearly deserves is a move the organization can’t hesitate to make.

On Thursday, Rams head coach Sean McVay handled numerous questions in regards to the team, including an update on Donald’s contract situation with the team. Here’s a look at what McVay had to say, courtesy of Joe Curley from the Ventura County Star:

Give McVay credit for saying all of the right things about the situation while praising Donald for his skills in the process. Clearly, McVay realizes the difference having Donald in the lineup is going to make for Los Angeles on defense not just this upcoming season, but for years to come.

There aren’t many dynamic players who can wreak havoc on the defensive side of the football the way Donald can, and seeing him lead the league in quarterback hits (31) last year despite all of the extra attention is the perfect example of much of a nightmare he can be for opponents. Minicamp may officially be in the books, but don’t expect these talks regarding Donald’s potential long-term deal to go away anytime soon for the Rams.
