Rams couch Goff’s progress while national remains skeptical
By Steve Rivera
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Like a glass half empty or full, he’s either gotten much better, or couldn’t be as bad as last season.
Los Angeles Rams fans who find their heads spinning not knowing what to believe on the subject of Jared Goff can take solice. At best it’s a mixed bag. Comments from inside the organization paint a picture of progress and optimism, while the national media seems to be taking a much more cautious, if not skeptical approach.

So where’s the truth?
Seeing as OTA’s have just wrapped, and “coach-speak” can be a credible spin job, we won’t really know much until maybe the midpoint of the 2017 NFL regular season.
Feeling better?
Fact is, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. To have watched and covered your eyes last year while Goff and the Rams offense were on the field is something all LA fans can relate to.
But 2016 might prove to be more of a blip than a trend, and if you’re a Rams fan, that is something worth hanging your hat on.
A few things worth remembering as you read the national media:
1. No More Jeff FIsher or Rob Boras.
2. See number 1 again.
It is reasonable to believe that Goff will be better than last year. For the first time in his brief NFL career, he is actually in a functional offense that better caters to his skill set. Had Fisher been retained by Los Angeles, the forecast would likely not be as hopeful.

Sean McVay is a better fit for the development of Goff. With Fisher, it was the “square peg, round hole” situation. Based on that alone, what we hear from the national media versus from that of McVay and the Rams, really should indicate Goff is better than last season.
Which in and of itself, should be welcomed news in Los Angeles
