With the reports of Carson Wentz potentially receiving an extension this summer, the Los Angeles Rams may need to take care of Jared Goof sooner rather than later if this happens.

Over the last couple of months, Jared Goff has made it clear that he isn’t too concerned over his contract situation with the Los Angeles Rams, most likely because the former No. 1 pick knows it will be addressed at some point.

Towards the end of April, the Rams made the easy decision to exercise the fifth-year option for their beloved quarterback to keep him around through the 2020 season, which also gave them a little extra time in regards to a potential extension for Goff.

However, with the recent news coming out about how the Philadelphia Eagles may extend Carson Wentz this summer, and possibly pay the quarterback around $30 million per season, one can only imagine if this will change Goff’s approach over the situation.

Similar to the Rams, the Eagles realize it’s only a matter of time before they have to open up their checkbook for Wentz, although it’s interesting to hear the news of this report since one would assume the safe move would be waiting it out to make sure he remains healthy.

This may not seem like a problem that Los Angeles needs to deal with, but since most quarterbacks across the league tend to use other players at the position for leverage to benefit their own deals, what Wentz ends up making could help determine Goff’s next contract.

Goff may not be on the same level as some of the other top quarterbacks across the league, but his progress over the last two seasons along with the recent trip by the Rams to the Super Bowl shows he’s the best option for the long run.

After all of those years prior to Sean McVay consisting of the offense being a laughing stock across the NFL, Los Angeles has worked their way into having one of the top offenses in the league.

But if that trend is going to continue, the Rams will need to do whatever it takes to keep Goff happy, and if that turns out  be paying him sooner than expected as a result of Wentz receiving an extension this summer, then so be it.

Plus, after looking at all of the players from last offseason such as Aaron Donald and Todd Gurley who received extensions, Goff could easily use this as leverage as well if a deal needs to happen sooner, so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out moving forward.
