St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals – The St. Louis Rams (3-2, 3-0 home) beat the Arizona Cardinals (4-1, 1-1 away) 17-3 on Thursday Night Football, as Sam Bradford’s arm completed seven passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Steven Jackson rushed for 76 yards on 18 carries, and receiver Chris Givens was able to reel in one catch for 51 yards and a score.

The real story in the Rams win was the team’s defense. Courtland Finnegan recorded 10 tackles and a sack, James Laurinatis made 10 tackles, and William Hayes recovered a fumble. As a unit, the defense sacked Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb nine times.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola was unable to finish the game, as he sustained an injury. Ramblin’ Fan will keep you up to date on his health as additional details become available.

St. Louis will go on a ten-day vacation before traveling to Miami to take on the Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium on Oct. 14.

UPDATE: Additional information has been made available since this posting and it stated that Jackson will only be able to void the final year of his contract. That means Jackson could have one additional year with the Rams after this season is completed.

According to Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, St. Louis Rams star running back Steven Jackson has voided the final two years of his contract, most likely making the 2012-13 season his final year with the team.

Sep 30, 2012; St. Louis, MO, USA; St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson (39) carries the ball against the Seattle Seahawks during the first half at the Edward Jones Dome.
The St. Louis Rams’ front office brass has granted Jackson the ability to void out the final two years of his contract, despite not meeting the required incentives for such a clause to take effect, which will make him an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

Jackson was set to earn $7 million season and that is not the going rate for broken-down 30-year-old running backs. The Rams were smart by allowing Jackson to void his contract and will no longer have his contract disrupting the team’s ability to acquire more astute resources in its attempt to rebuild under head coach Jeff Fisher.

This move allows Jackson to join a team ready to win a Super Bowl in 2013, although, he will not earn as much money as he would have with the Rams—that’s for certain.

It’s a sad day for diehard Rams fans, but even Joe Montana had to leave his most loyal fans for the Kansas City Chiefs. It happens to every team with a tremendous athlete.
