The Rams are starting the process to fill out their coaching staff, and now that Jeff Fisher is here, the other pieces are starting to fall into place. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New Orleans Saints’ defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is leaving The Big Easy to join Fisher in the same role with the Rams. Williams’ contract expired when his team lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, so expect him to be in place here before long.

Williams and Fisher go back a long way to their days with the Tennessee Titans, so this move was not shocking at all. He helped the Saints to a Super Bowl title in his first season with the team in 2009, but his defenses haven’t been quite as good over the last few seasons. Still, I think he did a nice job with what he had down there, and I like the fit here. He and Fisher will be on the same page, and they will both have some talent to work with in St. Louis. There are holes to be filled, there’s no question about that, but some big pieces are in place to keep this group moving forward. Having a guy like James Laurinaitis running the show has to be a big draw, while talents like Chris Long and Robert Quinn on the ends are attractive as well.

Williams wasn’t the only coordinator to make news in St. Louis this weekend, as Fisher reportedly met with Brian Schottenheimer as well. I talked about Schott yesterday, but it looks like he could be on his way here as well. We are still waiting for more news on the GM front, but my guess is that Fisher would like to get some of his staff in place before really getting in on that search. I would expect all of this to come together pretty quickly over the next few weeks, so don’t be shocked when the news continues to come out.

The latest news on Jeff Fisher is that there really is no news. Fisher still hasn’t made a decision between the Rams and Dolphins, but we should know something in the coming days.

I don’t know if this is news, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that a source close to Fisher said the coach is not playing the Rams and Dolphins against each other and neither team has made an offer yet. The source said that Fisher wants to win and his decision is not about money, so if you believe that, the the Rams should be the choice because of the pieces they have in place and the fact they have the second pick in the draft and the first pick on the second day.

I don’t know if I believe that this isn’t about money or even that no offers have been made, but I guess we won’t know until he makes a decision. I’m almost to the point where I’m ready to say forget Fisher, but there just aren’t enough great coaching candidates out there. I also think Fisher might be waiting to see if the job in Indianapolis opens up, but that might just be my penchant for conspiracy theories.

The news on Sam Bradford was remarkably better on Wednesday, which is a great sign with the Rams facing another daunting task this weekend when they head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. Bradford didn’t practice on Wednesday, and in fact he didn’t even come out of the field. He spent the day getting every possible kind of treatment on that injured ankle, and he told the media afterwards that it feels much better today than it did on Monday. As far as his availability for the weekend, Bradford says he wants to play and that he will play is he is at all able.

For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that Bradford is likely going to play, so that’s another one in the win column for us. It doesn’t mean he will for sure be out there, but I’ve kind of gotten the feeling over the last few days from what the people in the organization have been saying that he will go unless there is a setback. From what I gather, the plan is to keep him limited in practice at least until Friday to make sure it doesn’t get any worse, and then have him ready for Sunday. Like I said, it’s not a certainty by any means, but if I were a betting man, I’d say he’s under center. If he does play, I’m sure he’s excited to try out his new toy in Brandon Lloyd, so hopefully we will see an instant connection.
