Rams QB Bradford A Game-Time Decision

It looks like we won’t know who is starting under center against the Arizona Cardinals until before the game on Sunday, as the St. Louis Rams are calling Sam Bradford a game-time decision. Bradford took snaps with the offense Friday, but the team is waiting to see how his ankle reacts to the extra work. I’m not going to make any predictions on his status, but the chances are looking much better after he did work on Friday. If I had to guess, I’d say he gives it a go after listening to what he said earlier in the week, but if there’s a chance he isn’t ready then expect to see AJ Feeley out there.

On the rest of the injury front, Jason Smith, Darell Scott, Danario Alexander and Mark Clayton have been ruled out for the game. It looks like Brady Poppinga and Justin King will be active and will play, so that’s good news. Bryan Kehl was in a walking boot this week after hurting his ankle, so it’s not looking great for him. No real surprises on this list, as we knew the guys who are out were going to be out a few days ago. It’s nice to have Poppinga and King both back, if only for depth purposes. I like what Poppinga brings to this defense, so it’s good to have him back on the field. As far as King goes, I think we all know his deal. The secondary was fine without him last week, but it can never hurt to have more bodies at the position.

“Bradford Watch” Continues For Rams

The Rams took back to the field for practice on Wednesday, which means all eyes were on quarterback Sam Bradford and whether or not he will play on Sunday in Arizona. Bradford wasn’t able to go again today, but he was on the field and according to Spags he was able to take “mental reps.” Bradford said the ankle is feeling much better, but he still isn’t ready to test it on the field. As far as his status for Sunday goes, as it has been for the last two weeks, he is being called day-to-day. I have gotten out of the business of predicting whether or not he will play, but there’s no doubt things look better this week than they did last.

For what it’s worth, Bradford spoke with the media after practice and sounded pretty optimistic that he would be able to practice at some point this week. “If they would’ve let me practice today, I would have loved to practice. I think hopefully by Friday or even tomorrow, depending on how it feels. Hopefully I’ll get in there for a couple reps. Like I said though, I think Reg (trainer Reggie Scott) has done a great job handling this. He kind of knows where we’re at right now and it’s really up to him to make the decision. I think one of the big things is, whatever we do this week, I don’t want to make it more sore for Sunday if I do play. Whatever we do, just make sure that it’s enough to get by and then hopefully go into the game fresh as possible.” More on next page.

Bradford Out, Others Doubtful For Sunday

I would imagine that most of you reading this from St. Louis had a long weekend with the Cardinals winning the World Series and all, so you can sympathize with me being unable to post last night while I spent the night downtown celebrating with the rest of the city. In my absence, the Rams announced that quarterback Sam Bradford will miss Sunday’s game against the Saints as he continues to recover from his ankle injury. I can’t say I’m overly shocked, but it is disappointing. I guess there’s no reason to rush him back before he’s ready with the season pretty much a lost cause already, but still we enjoy seeing Bradford when we show up at the Dome.

As far as the rest of the injury front goes, Mark Clayton won’t be making his debut as he continues to deal with Achilles soreness, but it looks like Marquis Johnson will be active from what Spags said on Friday. It looks like the team will be without Danario Alexander as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. He didn’t practice all week and he’s expected to be out along with LB Brady Poppinga, who also missed practice all week with his calf ailment. Obviously it’s never good when starters have to miss with injury, but it really hurts when it’s a guy like DX who has had so many injury issues already. They good news is that it’s not his knee, so hopefully he will be able to bounce back.
