If there was any question about how serious the Rams are in bringing in Jeff Fisher as their new head coach, they were answered on Thursday. Rams owner Stan Kroenke met with Fisher in Denver for a good part of the day with Fisher reportedly leaving sometime Thursday night.

I love how Kroenke wasted no time in getting this meeting set up, especially since Miami already interviewed the coach earlier this week. The report is that the two sides met in Denver to avoid the media circus that would have happened here, and I think that was a good move as well. Fisher is more of an old-school kind of guy, and after the Dolphins really made a spectacle of his interview, a more low-key approach might be the right way to go.

I have a feeling that when all is said and done, however, Fisher’s decision is going to come down to which situation he thinks is the best for him. The money is likely going to be similar, and both teams are certainly in need of a fresh start. Fisher wants to win and he wants to be in it for the long haul with whatever franchise he chooses. I still think our ownership and the pieces we have in place are better than anything he will find in Miami, but I guess we will find out when Fisher combs his mustache, slicks back his hair and steps in front of the camera with his new owner. Let’s hope that guy standing next to him is Stan.

Ok… I know I said that I was going to be doing rookie profiles this week, and they are still coming, but there are other newsworthy happenings in Ramsland right now. For those of you expecting those previews, sit tight. Now, on to the news. First, there was a report in the Denver Post today about Stan Kroenke’s bid to own the Rams. According to the article, it looks like the owners may make their decision at the August 25 meeting, and it also looks good that he will be approved. This isn’t breaking news by any means, but it’s nice to see that the news is still positive from a source outside St. Louis.

Next, the ever-developing OJ Atogwe saga took a new turn today, as apparently the demand for the safety isn’t nearly as high as expected. According to Fanhouse, the Cowboys, Lions, 49ers, Eagles, Jets, and the Vikings are all less than interested in his services. The article goes on to say that the Rams are the favorites right now, and the Dolphins are possibly the only other team interested. This is very good news, and it would be great if we could get him back at a reduced price. I will be watching the situation closely, but things are looking up right now. Finally, the team made a personnel move today by signing former Pro Bowl DT La’Roi Glover to be their new Director of Player Programs. The job consists of working with rookies and helping with their transition to the NFL, and Glover looks like the perfect man for the job. He has been there, been successful, and he knows how to handle himself. The transition from poor college student to multi-millionaire can be a daunting one, so it will be beneficial to have someone there to help the transition.

Well Rams fans, we are just a few days away from Christmas in April, aka the NFL Draft. If you aren’t excited by now, I think it that should be changing before Thursday. This is going to be a big week here at Ramblin Fan, as I plan on giving you some of the best Rams draft coverage to be found on the net. Early in the week I plan on unveiling my official 2010 mock draft, and I also plan to look at a few more players and/or positions in more depth. Also, I’d like to hear from you guys this week. What do you want me to cover in the final days before the draft? Is there a specific player you want to know more about? DO you have any questions that I might be able to answer? If anyone has anything at all, hit up the comments section and I will be more than happy to cover it. Also, make sure to check the site frequently starting Thursday, as I will be covering the Rams pick-by-pick here and also on my Twitter page @Ramblinfan. This will be the place to be for Rams fans, so make sure to check it out.

Now for a bit of an update on a previous post, it seems that potential owner Stan Kroenke might have solved his cross-ownership problem. Reports have surfaced that Kroenke plans to transfer his Denver franchises to a family member in order to purchase full ownership in our beloved Rams. This isn’t a sure thing yet, but it looks like the league will allow this move, thus opening the door for Kroenke here in the NFL. I can’t say I’m overly shocked that Kroenke had a plan, because a man as smart as he is wouldn’t have exercised him right of refusal without knowing the rules and understanding how to get around them. I plan on focusing entirely on he draft this coming week, but I will definitely keep tabs on the ownership situation. That’s it for me today, so have a good Sunday and remember to come back this week for all the draft coverage.
