So I got this info a few days ago, but with the Dome details and the OTAs it kind of got put on the back burner. Rams great Isaac Bruce will be holding a free football camp at the ContinuityX Training Center, which is the new name for Rams Park. The camp will be held on Saturday, June 30 and will be open to the first 250 8-10 year olds and the first 250 11-13 year olds to register.

According to the release, “The free clinic provides youth the opportunity to work on their football skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork skills, while building self-esteem both on and off the field. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and refreshments as well as have the opportunity to meet Bruce.”

I went to something like this as a kid, and it was a great experience. Although I don’t remember everything from that day, I do remember that Jerome Bettis busted my lip open during running back drills. It might not sound like a good thing, but I’ll never forget it.

For anyone interested, you can go here for the registration and info. It’s a great opportunity for kids who are interested in playing football, and it will be a good experience for everyone involved.

We have all heard plenty of stories about how the big stars are handling the NFL lockout, but there haven’t been nearly as many about those borderline guys who aren’t getting a chance to try to make a team and keep their dreams alive. Well, former Rams special teamer/receiver Jordan Kent has decided he will use this time to give back to others in the football world. Kent has established a touring football camp for high school players called Edge Combines. Kent is traveling to numerous high schools in the Pacific Northwest teaching work habits and football skills.

In an article in The Oregonian, Kent discusses his camp and his current situation within the NFL. He still wants to play in the league, but if he doesn’t find a job, he sounds like he is ok with that. “”I can walk away with my head held high because at the end of the day I played three years in the NFL after picking up the sport two years before that,” he said.

I have a soft spot for Kent because I am a big Oregon fan, and he was awfully impressive playing three sports as a Duck, and doing all three of them very well. At 6-foot-4 with outstanding speed, I have to think he could be a solid NFL receiver if someone would give him a chance, because he is still learning the position and the game. He is an outstanding special teams player, and the potential is there. I’m not lobbying for him to come back to St. Louis, because we already have a logjam at the receiver position, but I think we can see that this lockout is affecting more than just the multi-millionaires who are sitting at home counting their money. Guys like Kent are just trying to get a job in the league, and this lockout is affecting them more than the guys who already have their spot
