St. Louis Rams Select Andre Smith

Well if you go by all of the early mock drafts it does appear the St. Louis Rams will draft left tackle Andre Smith from Alabama. The results below are from HailRedskins.com and are a combination of the 97 latest mock drafts from 2009. As you can see he is still the clear #1 choice from the experts to the novice. However as you already know we do NOT believe there is any chance of the Rams drafting Andre Smith. I believe the Rams will select Michael Crabtree and I will stay by that at least until after the free agent period. Billy Devaney proved to St. Louis Rams fans last year that the Rams are into character as much as talent when they selected Donnie Avery from Houston in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Andre Smith was suspended prior to the 2009 Sugar Bowl due to alleged dealings with a sports agent. Smith can absolutely maul while run blocking but his huge size and slow footwork clearly make him a better right tackle to me. You simply do not draft a right tackle with the #2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Russ Lande Provides An Updated Mock Draft

Russ Lande of Yahoo Sports has released his latest mock draft based on the latest underclassmen declarations. Some of these mock drafts are just funny. Anyone can be an expert on the internet. Nobody thought Mark Sanchez would declare and now he is going to go first in the 2009 NFL draft? The Lions have no line and a slew of other issues. They are now actually going to take a QB that only started about 20 college games. Come on. Now Josh Freeman is on this list as well, really. You can still see our first mock draft here. What are your thoughts?

No. 1 Lions. Mark Sanchez*, QB, USC

Sanchez is NFL-ready and has a similar skill set to Matthew Stafford, but does not make the mistakes under pressure that Stafford does occasionally.

No. 2 Rams. Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Rams officials love Andre Smith’s talent but worry about his weight. Monroe isn’t quite as good a run blocker but is an elite pass protector.

No. 3 Chiefs. Matthew Stafford*, QB, Georgia

Despite Tyler Thigpen’s strong finish and Stafford’s occasional interceptions, GM Scott Pioli should grab a QB to build around.

No. 4 Seahawks Andre Smith*, OT, Alabama

Seattle is desperate for receivers, but Walter Jones is not getting any younger. Smith would start at right tackle in ’09 and then shift to the left side when Jones retires.

No. 5 Browns. Chris Wells*, RB, Ohio State

Don’t believe the rumors of Wells lacking great toughness or work ethic. He will become an NFL franchise back.

The Raiders still need a top-flight left tackle to protect JaMarcus Russell, and Robert Gallery is not the answer.

No. 8 Jaguars. Rey Maualuga, MLB, USC

Maualuga is a violent, aggressive middle linebacker who changes games with his hitting ability, and Jags need someone to replace malcontent Mike Peterson.

No. 9 Packers. B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

The Packers desperately need someone to clog the middle of their run defense.

No. 10 49ers. Josh Freeman*, QB, Kansas State

Freeman is a big, strong-armed quarterback with top athleticism, character and passing tools.
