It was another day, and another win for the St. Louis Rams on Friday night when they strolled into Kansas City and took back the Governor’s Cup with a 14-10 preseason win. This outing was far and away better than last week’s effort against the Titans, and I’m really starting to feel good about the upcoming season. It’s one thing to say the preseason doesn’t mean much, but the third game is the “dress rehearsal” for the regular season and the Rams passed the test.

I thought the offense looked good in the first half, and they scored on their opening drive of the game for the third time in three tries this preseason. Bradford got protection, unlike last week, and the running game looked outstanding for the first time this season. I was never truly worried about the offensive line after last week’s debacle, and tonight’s game shows that this line really is pretty good.

Defensively, the guys looked fast and all on the same page. The Chiefs never got anything going on the ground, and I really like the linebacking corps with Ben Leber and Brady Poppinga starting. I thought Robert Quinn was better tonight, and I really like the fact that he seems to get better every time out. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was certainly good enough to inspire confidence in this team heading into the regular season. I will have a more in depth look at the game tomorrow after a get a chance to analyze it more closely, so stay tuned for that.

The lockout is still raging on, but that’s not stopping the Rams from minicamp. Middle Linebacker James Laurinaitis told the NFL Network today that the players are getting together this week for a player-run minicamp at an undisclosed location in Arizona. According to Laurinaitis, the camp will take place Thursday through Sunday, and it sounds like this one will be much like the last in St. Louis, with 7-on-7 work, film study, workouts, and classroom work. It sounds like skill-position players, linebackers and defensive backs will be there, so it sounds like plenty of work will be done.

As far as the actual location goes, they’re keeping it pretty tight-lipped. I obviously won’t be there since it’s in Arizona, but I have heard rumors that it will be in the Glendale area, so for anyone out in the desert keep a lookout. There have been varying opinions on how important these workouts are, but I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I would much rather have these guys together, working on their game, studying film, and just generally being around each other than sitting by themselves not doing anything. These workouts might not make a major difference in prep

If those of you out there just can’t get enough Rams talk, you might want to check out the chat transcript with Rams’ insider Jim Thomas at stltoday.com. JT hits on numerous different issues regarding the team, and the answers are very insightful. It’s long, but it’s a good read, so check it out when you get some time.

Some of the more interesting points raised included a question about how much money the Rams have tied up in contracts for 2011, discussions about the Rams future in St. Louis, labor issue talks, draft stuff, and free agent stuff. I won’t ruin it for you, but if you want to know about any of these issues, check it out. Here is the link.

Also, a little update on what to expect from Ramblin’ Fan in the near future. I’ve fallen behind on my combine reports due to some late nights working at the paper, and it turns out it takes forever to write one of those posts. However, I plan on finishing the reports in the coming days. There are still linebackers, corners, and safeties to come, so stay tuned. I am also in the process of working on a lengthy feature about Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones, and why I believe he will still be on the board when the Rams draft at 14. At the very least, it will give all of the Jones lovers some hope, so expect to see that soon.
