We’ve done quite a bit of talking about Rams defensive ends Robert Quinn and Chris Long here, but we aren’t the only ones who are excited about the future. ESPN’s Matt Williamson recently ranked the projected top pass rushers for 2015, and the Rams dynamic duo both made the top six. Quinn checked in at number four, while Long was named number six.

The top three on the list were Jason Pierre-Paul, Aldon Smith and Von Miller, so that’s pretty good company. Here is what Williamson had to say about each player.

Quinn: Choosing the top three pass-rushers on this list was easy to do. As it stands, there is a drop-off from Pierre-Paul, Smith and Miller to Quinn. But that is just because we haven’t seen as much from Quinn, who has a chance to be a special player while showing impressive flashes during his rookie season. His adjustment to the NFL was more difficult than that of most rookies due to the lockout and the time he missed during his final season at North Carolina. But he is an extremely explosive player with terrific pass-rush potential. Amazingly, Quinn will be only 25 when the 2015 season begins.

Long: The 27-year-old Long erupted in 2011 and has begun to live up to his father’s tremendous legacy. He has never missed a game over his four-year career, and Long’s sack numbers have improved every season, culminating in 13 sacks last year. A much better athlete than he is often given credit for, the former second overall pick is a sound technique player and shows exceptional effort.

I think his assessment of Long is right on, and I loved what he had to say about Quinn. I’ve been saying ever since we drafted him that he is special, so let’s hope this all plays out and Quinn turns out to be as good as many people are starting to expect.

Scouts Inc. writer Matt Williamson made a guest appearance on the NFC West blog at ESPN.com this week, and he thought it might be a good idea to rank the top 15 players currently in the NFC West. Seems easy enough, right? As bad as this division is, there are still some pretty decent individual players stepping between the lines every Sunday. The Rams made two appearances on the list, but running back Steven Jackson was not one of them. James Laurinaitis checked in at 9 and Chris Long at 11, which I was pretty pleased with, but how can SJ39 not be on this list? I’m not saying this guy is the best player in the NFL or anything, but I firmly believe he has no problem being in the top 15 in the division. Frank Gore made the list, and I would take Jackson over him in a heartbeat.

While it’s a travesty that SJ39 isn’t named, the list actually isn’t bad. Larry Fitzgerald is at the top, followed closely by Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, and Vernon Davis. I don’t have any huge problems here, although if I was making the list Willis would be far and away my number one overall. I think Laurinaitis is about where I expected him to be, and I was pleasantly surprised that Long is finally getting some recognition for how good of a player he has become. Maybe I’m crazy here, but Steven Jackson should be on the list over guys like Russell Okung (8) who was injured for much of his rookie season, and Mike Iupati (10) who is a guard, just to name a few. I’m going to put it in your hands. Check out the poll on the side of the page to rank where you think Jackson belongs in the scope of this division. We will see what the Rams nation thinks of SJ39 and if ESPN isn’t giving him the respect he deserves.

So, I did a post a few days ago about Randy Moss moving on from Tennessee and how the Rams could possibly have some level of interest due to their lack of a number one wide receiver and his connection to OC Josh McDaniels. As I was surfing the web today looking at NFL stuff, I came across an article at ESPN.com by NFC West blogger Mike Sando (written today) discussing the very same thing. Sando pretty much discusses the same points I hit on, including the opinion that the team will move forward with what they have. Sando does say that he believes that the team should keep an open mind when it comes to Moss, and he thinks the connection to McD could play a role in the team’s decision.

Sando also discusses a conversation that he had with Scout Inc.’s Matt Williamson on the situation in which Williamson questions whether it would be a good idea to add Moss to the Rams’ locker room. “As for adding him to that Rams’ locker room, you are closer to that situation than I am, but it seems to me that it wouldn’t be such a hot idea. Does Moss make the Rams a Super Bowl contender this season? I don’t think so.” I don’t want to sound ridiculous here, but if the Rams got the Randy Moss from a few years ago, I do believe they would be a legit playoff contender, and we all know anything can happen when you get to the playoffs.

The question then is: What does Moss have left in the tank? It’s common knowledge that Moss is pretty much only good for one thing: Playing outside the numbers and going deep. It looked during last season that he has lost at least a step, hurting his ability to be a major deep threat. If he can’t give the Rams that threat, then there’s certainly no use for him here. Then, if you add in the off-the-field stuff, it seems like a risk that has very limited upside. I’m still of the belief that the team should and will take a pass on Moss, b
