We are up to the Rams second pick in our mock draft, and this one was a little tougher than the first round. I think the team is going to be looking at defensive tackle here, and there should be plenty quality players available at that position. However, because there are guys like Devon Still, Jerel Worthy and Kendall Reyes likely on the board, I could see the Rams going a different way here and rolling the dice that one of those guys is available at 39. There are plenty of options, that’s for sure.

Part of me wants to take Mike Adams here, but after his positive marijuana test, he is falling down draft boards. I think he’s a nice player, but I’m not completely sold on him being a great pro.

Therefore, with the 33rd pick in he 2012 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Devon Still, DT Penn State.

Still is going in the first round in some mocks, and I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s a first-round talent. He’s huge at 6-foot-5 305 lbs, and he is the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He had 17 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks last season, and he was a force in the middle of that defensive line. He might be off the board, but if he’s there it would be a great pick for the Rams.

We discussed pre-draft visits a little yesterday, but the visits officially got started today as the Rams welcomed four players to town. Today’s group featured a nice variety of positions, and all of the players are intriguing prospects. The players involved were Oklahoma St. WR Justin Blackmon, Ohio St. OL Mike Adams, Mississippi St. DT Fletcher Cox and North Alabama CB Janoris Jenkins.

I think we’ve already spent plenty of time talking about Blackmon, so let’s move on to the others. Adams is a guy who has had some issues and a guy who I really wasn’t impressed with at the combine. However, he is talented and numerous scouts believe his size and athleticism are quality NFL attributes. I have seen a couple of mock drafts that have Adams going to the Rams in the second round, and I think he would be a decent value there.

Speaking of mock drafts, I have seen a couple that have Cox going to St. Louis at sixth. I don’t think that’s realistic, but he is a real option if we move back. Cox would be a great fit.

Jenkins is one of the most interesting prospects in the draft. He is supremely talented, but his list of off-field issues is a mile long. He has numerous drug arrests, a failed drug test, an arrest from a bar fight, and he’s got four children from three different women. Still, he seems to be climbing up draft boards. I think he will go the the late first round if he stays clean before the draft, but if he would fall to the second he might be too good to pass up.

We are going through a transition to a new site layout here at Ramblin Fan, so it might be hit or miss over the next few days as to whether I will be able to post. I will do what I can, but you will have to bear with me.

The NFL Scouting Combine is in full swing, so let’s take a look at the first group that participated: the offensive lineman.

The guys who impressed me: Matt Kalil, David DeCastro, Philip Blake, Cordy Glenn, Kelechi Osemele, Adam Gettis.

First of all, let me say that I thought the o-line group as a whole was highly impressive. I couldn’t name everyone I liked, but these are the guys who really stood out. Kalil was as good as advertised. He was polished in technique, and his measurables were all outstanding. DeCastro didn’t blow anyone away with athleticism, but he really stood out in the technique drills and solidified himself as a first rounder. Blake was probably the biggest surprise for me, as he posted great numbers all across the board. As a center, he should be on the Rams radar. Glenn was an absolute beast all day, and I couldn’t believe how fast he was at 6-foot-5 and well over 300 lbs. Osemele helped his cause with athleticism, and so did Gettis, although I wasn’t highly impressed with the technique Gettis showed. He is an athletic freak, but he needs to get more polished.

Guys I didn’t love: Rishaw Johnson, John Cullen, Mike Adams

Johnson showed some outstanding athleticism, but he looked awful in the drills. I think he could develop into an NFL player, but he’s got a long way to go. Cullen really struggled for most of the day, and he isn’t nearly the athlete Johnson is. Adams wasn’t necessarily terrible, but I really thought he would put on a much better show. His 19 reps in the bench press were highly disappointing, and overall he just didn’t do anything well enough to set him apart.
