It might not have been the Rams, but it was still football, and football is good. The Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints opened up the 2012 preseason on Sunday night in the Hall of Fame Game, with the Saints beating the Cards 17-10.

As with most preseason games, the final score wasn’t what was important. What is important, however, is that Arizona’s quarterback situation looks just as bad as it was last season. Potential starter Kevin Kolb came out and promptly threw an interception on his first pass of the game, then after a three-and-out, he was hit and left the game with a rib contusion. Yeah, that sounds about right for Kolb. John Skelton actually looked pretty solid during his turn, but everyone who is saying the Rams are a sure thing to finish last in the West again should probably rethink that opinion until Arizona finds a quarterback.

Drew Brees was Drew Brees in his only drive of the evening, as he marched the Saints down the field for a touchdown and finished 4/5 for 41 yards. Mizzou great Chase Daniel had a nice night after Brees left, as he finished 15/20 for 203 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Not bad.

Overall, although I didn’t really care much about this game, it was still great to see NFL football back on the TV screen. Now we just have to wait a week to finally see the Rams.

With the rash of injuries that hit the Rams on Sunday, the team shook up the roster a bit on Wednesday to fill some holes. As far as the active roster goes, the team signed RB Quinn Porter off Cleveland’s practice squad and the promoted CB Tim Atchison from their own practice squad to fill the holes. As far as Porter goes, I really don’t know much about him other than he played with the Packers and Browns last season and battled for the final running back spot in Cleveland this year. I’m told he is explosive and could factor in the return game if needed, but I wouldn’t expect him to see much time. Atchison played with the Rams in the preseason, and I thought he did at least a decent job. The team worked out some corners this week, so the fact that they went with Atchison tells you that the team believes he can do the job if called upon. Continue reading on the next page…

Rams wide receiver and former Mizzou star Danario Alexander was a guest on The Fast Lane radio show today at 101 ESPN in St. Louis, and he dropped a bombshell on us. The whole interview was very good, and I’ll provide a link at the end of this post, but DX provided the biggest news we have heard in awhile regarding the 2011 version of the Rams. According to Alexander, the receivers and quarterback Sam Bradford worked out recently, and they lined up and ran plays from the Josh McDaniels playbook that they received during the short stay in the lockout. That, however, is not the bombshell. Alexander relayed that Bradford got the entire playbook from McD and he already knows “the whole thing like the back of his hand.”

Wow. For everyone, me included, who said this lockout was going to hurt the offense because of the new system, this statement has to make us rethink that theory. I’m not saying that this means the offense will be in midseason form from Day 1, but you have to feel good that our quarterback not only has the playbook, but already knows it. Alexander said he was surprised at how well Sam knew the plays, and for someone on the inside to be surprised, it must have been impressive. This just goes to show you how lucky we are to have this man as our signal-caller. Not only is he supremely talented, but he is one of the hardest workers on the team and a consummate professional. I have to admit that, although there is no end to the lockout in sight, I have never been more excited for the upcoming season than I am right now.

Here is the link to the interview, so give it a listen.
