I’m not going to sit here and say that I expect the Rams to win the NFC West this season, but I’m also not going to say that it’s impossible. Mike Sando, who covers the NFC West for ESPN, agrees with me. Sando responded to a mailbag question from a Rams fan asking about the possibility of the Rams going from worst to first.

“Yes, the Rams have a chance. It’s an outside chance. They arguably have the most talented quarterback in the division. They have talent on the defensive line. Strength at those positions will give a team a chance. The Rams will need much better luck with injuries. They’re due on that front.

“Also, while the NFC West has improved, the quarterback situations aren’t stable across the board. There are no perennial Pro Bowl quarterbacks standing in the way. Every team in the division has taken too many sacks recently. Sacks put quarterbacks at risk to injury. A teams’s fortunes can swing wildly with an unexpected quarterback change.”

I have to admit that Sando makes some good points, but I’m not ready to crown the Rams as division champs just yet. I guess what I’m trying to say is that there’s a chance. It might not be a good chance, but these things can happen. Don’t give up hope yet, Rams fans.

I know this isn’t Rams news, but the NFL family lost a great member on Wednesday when Junior Seau was found dead in his home. The police are saying this is an apparent suicide, and he was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest. It’s a sad day for everyone who loves the game and for everyone who got to see Seau play.

I know when I was growing up and falling in love with the game of football, Seau was one of the guys I loved to watch. He was an animal out on the field, and he also always had a smile on his face while doing it. He made the Pro Bowl 12 consecutive times and he was All Pro six times. He wasn’t good … He was great. He was inducted into the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame last year, and he certainly earned it.

From reading Twitter and several reports from around the league, it sounds like this was pretty shocking to everyone who knew Seau. He was loved by his teammates, so there are a ton of people out there who have been hit hard outside of his family.

It’s always sad when something like ths happens, and even more so when it’s somebody like Junior Seau. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and everyone who had the privilege of seeing him play.

The Rams announced on Monday that wide receiver Torry Holt will sign a one-day contract with the team and retire as a member of the organization. Holt spent 10 years in St. Louis after being taken by the team with the sixth overall pick in the 1999 draft.

Holt made seven Pro Bowls, ranks 10th all time on the NFL receiving yards list (13,382) and 13th in receptions (920). Holt is second on the Rams receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns lists behind just Greatest Show On Turf running mate Isaac Bruce, and he helped the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in his rookie season.

I’ve always loved “Big Game”, so it makes me very happy to see him retire as a member of this organization. He was one of the best receivers in the game during a majority of his time here, and in addition to that talent he brought a great personality as well. Torry is a class act, and I hope the Rams find a way to get him involved with the club going forward.

For those of you who got to see Big Game play and enjoyed it like I did, feel free to hit up the comments section with your favorite memory or anything else you want to say about him.
