Since no official team activities are allowed during the lockout, players have to take it upon themselves to get together if they want to work out. According to several players and league sources, Rams players are scheduled to get together starting on Monday for workout sessions in the St. Louis area. Now, I don’t know for sure who will be in attendance at these workouts, and the location is not being divulged due to security issues, but it looks like wide receiver great Torry Holt will be in town to work with the receivers and Cory Chavous will be working with the secondary.

Again, the specific details here are pretty much unknown, but it looks like a good number of players will be participating in these workouts. The players plan to do some weight-training and on-field work during these sessions, and having some top-notch veterans like Holt and Chavous can mean nothing but good things for the youthful members of this team. I’ve been saying for awhile that someone needs to step up and get something like this going, and it sounds like someone finally has. If you find yourself in the St. Louis area and you see a group of large men on a football field or in a park, chances are you might have stumbled upon the Rams, so keep your eyes open. It is my understanding that several of these sessions will be taking place in the coming weeks, so if I get any more info I will be sure to let everyone know.

The Rams have a tough task this weekend when they welcome the Atlanta Falcons to town, but this game is still winnable, so don’t write the Rams off just yet. The team has been outstanding at home this season, and while the Falcons are very good, this team has proven that they can play with anyone in the Dome. Here are the keys to this all-important Week 11 affair.

Big Play, Go Away – We found out last week that talented playmakers can give this defense some trouble, and with Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez coming to town, the issue will be back again. We can’t rely on penalties calling plays back like last last Sunday, so the secondary has to keep tabs on those two. I think White poses a major problem, and keeping him in check could decide the outcome.

Wrap It Up – Michael Turner has made a living brushing off arm tackles and getting extra yards. If the Rams want to slow down the Falcon offense, they can’t let Turner go crazy. Physical backs have given the team some trouble, so they need to make it a point to secure tackles when Turner touches the ball. If they can limit him, it will be tougher for the Falcons to spread the field for the passing game.

Open It Up – I have a feeling that points will be scored in this contest, so the Rams are going to have to find a way to get in the end zone. Short passes and runs up the middle probably won’t be enough to get the job done all day, so watch to see if the team opens up the passing game a bit. The Falcon defense it pretty good, but you can move the ball on them.

Keep Sam Up – Going off the previous point, the offensive line is going to have to give Sam Bradford some time in the pocket. The Falcons can rush the passer, so the line is going to have to make sure they give him a chance to get the ball down field. He has proven that he can make plays when he has time, so the team just needs to give it to him.

I’m not going to sit here and say the Rams are the favorites in this contest, but I do believe they have a realistic chance of getting the win and moving to .500. With that being said, my prediction is going to be 31-20 Falcons. I am really worried about White having a big day, but shutting him down could be the difference.

With their third pick of the 2010 draft, the Rams selected CB Jerome Murphy out of South Florida. Not a WR, but this looks like a solid pick. Murphy is a guy with nice size at 6-0, and he is excellent against the run. His speed is solid, and NFL teams love corners who have some size on them. This is a Coach Spags kind of guy, just like Bradley Fletcher was last year. Murphy is one of the big hitters in this draft, and he should be exciting to watch. Once again, I would have liked to see a receiver here, but Murphy has a second round rating and is another good value pick. We have been bad against the run for years, and it is nice to get a guy who can help out in that capacity. He could play safety as well, so his versatility is a plus. Another plus, he is a standout special teams player and should contribute in that capacity right away. Billy Devaney said a plan is in place to get some skill players, so you have to wonder when exactly that plan is going to go into effect. It’s hard to argue with the value of our last two picks, but it is also hard to get excited about them. On the bright side, there are still some excellent WR’s, TE’s, and RB’s on the board, so I still have plenty of hope that we will address those needs at some point.
