There is a short video up on StLouisRams.com of an interview with GM Billy Devaney, and he discusses each of the team’s picks in the 2011 Draft. He had some nice things to say about each player, obviously, and he talks about the potential roles of each player moving forward. Head over to the site and give it a look. Here are some of the highlights of the interview.

-Robert Quinn – Devaney said the team didn’t expect Quinn to be available at 14, and they are excited to get one of the premier pass-rushers in the class with the pick, especially since he fits the scheme.

-Lance Kendricks – He says Kendricks is more of a hybrid player than strictly tight end and that he will line up in multiple positions for the offense throughout the year.

-Austin Pettis – Like his size and hands and thinks Pettis can play right away and be effective, especially in the red zone.

-Greg Salas – Was the highest player on the team’s board at the pick, and they like his explosiveness with the ball.

-Jermale Hines – He is a big, physical safety who will bring toughness and can be a core special teams player.

-Mikail Baker – Love his speed and his return ability, and also like what he brings as a corner.

-Jabara Williams – Like his potential on special teams, like his athleticism and size at the position.

-Jonathan Nelson – More of a coverage safety who plays the ball very well.

You can say what you want about the Rams organization, but you have to respect the fact that Executive VP Kevin Demoff and the rest of the bigwigs involved with the team took the time to write a letter to the fans informing them of the current labor issues and where the team stands. If you want to read the whole thing, go to stlouisrams.com and read the letter in its entirety. Here are some excerpts from the letter.

“Dear Rams Fans,

Fresh off of a 2010 season that re-energized our fan base and reminded St. Louis of the collective joy that NFL football can bring to this region, it is disappointing to be writing you today regarding the NFL Players’ Association decision to de-certify and the expiration of the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. While we are frustrated that an agreement is not in place, we remain committed to the collective bargaining process and to federal mediation, which is the fastest and most fair path to reach a negotiated agreement with our players that will benefit our fans, players and clubs for the 2011 season and beyond…”

“As this process unfolds, our coaches, scouts and employees are hard at work to improve our team and deliver the experience you deserve as a valued fan. General Manager Billy Devaney and his scouts are on the road scouting this year’s draft class to find the best possible fits for our team. Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo and the coaching staff are game-planning for our 2011 opponents with an eye on capturing the NFC West title.”

You have to appreciate the fact that the team seems to be committed to making the best out of this situation, and the fact that they recognize the importance of the fans. Once again, check out the team’s site to read the entire thing.

The St. Louis Rams and coach Jim Haslett announced today that Orlando Pace returned to practice and will start Sunday against the New England Patriots. Pace had a slight tear in his quad which was more serious than the strain that Steven Jackson has. This is huge news because Orlando Pace will be blocking the very athletic Richard Seymour and Adalius Thomas who have combined for 6 sacks this season. I think it is a big advantage that the Rams played the Dallas Cowboys last week. The Cowboys also play 3-4 on defense. The Rams should be use to the blocking schemes needed to be successful. Adam Goldberg had a great game last week in place of Pace.

Quotes from Stlouisrams.com:

Haslett declared Pace fit and ready to make the start this weekend against New England.

“Everything is good,” Pace said. “I went through the whole practice and felt pretty good.”
