According to a league source, the Rams are among a group of teams who will host a visit from Temple safety Jaiquawn Jarrett. It’s no secret that the Rams have a major need at safety, so this move is not at all a surprise. As far as Jarrett goes, I like him. He played at Temple, so he didn’t face a ton of top-level competition, but he showed himself to be more than capable at the Senior Bowl.

Jarrett looked pretty solid at the Combine, as he ran a 4.54 40 and posted a 30 inch vertical. For the most part, he is being considered a third round or lower pick, and I’m sure he will be heavily on the Rams’ radar at that point. Keep any eye on Jarrett come draft weekend, because he could be a very nice fit on this defense.

With their third pick of the 2010 draft, the Rams selected CB Jerome Murphy out of South Florida. Not a WR, but this looks like a solid pick. Murphy is a guy with nice size at 6-0, and he is excellent against the run. His speed is solid, and NFL teams love corners who have some size on them. This is a Coach Spags kind of guy, just like Bradley Fletcher was last year. Murphy is one of the big hitters in this draft, and he should be exciting to watch. Once again, I would have liked to see a receiver here, but Murphy has a second round rating and is another good value pick. We have been bad against the run for years, and it is nice to get a guy who can help out in that capacity. He could play safety as well, so his versatility is a plus. Another plus, he is a standout special teams player and should contribute in that capacity right away. Billy Devaney said a plan is in place to get some skill players, so you have to wonder when exactly that plan is going to go into effect. It’s hard to argue with the value of our last two picks, but it is also hard to get excited about them. On the bright side, there are still some excellent WR’s, TE’s, and RB’s on the board, so I still have plenty of hope that we will address those needs at some point.
