I’m going to debut a new weekly feature here tonight, which is a follow-up after gameday that will look at some of the biggest issues and opinions from the previous Rams showdown. There are plenty of issues to take from the Monday Night Football game, and I certainly can’t get them all in here, so this will be a forum for you as well. Anything you saw or any opinions you have from the game is more than welcome in the comments section, and if you just want to vent, that’s fine too. Don’t be shy … Make your voice heard in the comments section.

Rookie Impact: The truth of the matter is that there are numerous rookies who are going to be regulars on the team this season. As far as Greg Salas goes, I think some of my comments after the game may have been misunderstood. I think Salas has plenty of potential and plenty of talent, and I certainly don’t think we should be giving up on him. My point was that until he is mentally ready to handle play at this level, his reps need to be decreased. It doesn’t do anyone any good to force him out there if he’s not ready, and we don’t want to damage his confidence this early in his career. As far as the other rookies, Robert Quinn picked up his first NFL sack, and I’m just so excited about what this guy could be in the future. Lance Kendricks looked better this week, and Quinn Porter did a decent job returning kicks.

No-rwood: Could someone please explain to me why Jerious Norwood is on this team? I’m not knocking him, but if the team is never going to use him, they might as well let him go. With SJ39 out, Norwood carried the ball three times this week, bringing his season total to six. Add that to the fact that the team decided to go with rookies Salas and Porter in the return game, and I just don’t understand why he isn’t being used. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have fumbled the punt or that he would have taken a kick back to the house, but if he isn’t a better option than a guy we signed two days before the game, and he isn’t good enough to carry the ball more than three times with Jackson out, then there’s no reason to keep him on the roster.

With the rash of injuries that hit the Rams on Sunday, the team shook up the roster a bit on Wednesday to fill some holes. As far as the active roster goes, the team signed RB Quinn Porter off Cleveland’s practice squad and the promoted CB Tim Atchison from their own practice squad to fill the holes. As far as Porter goes, I really don’t know much about him other than he played with the Packers and Browns last season and battled for the final running back spot in Cleveland this year. I’m told he is explosive and could factor in the return game if needed, but I wouldn’t expect him to see much time. Atchison played with the Rams in the preseason, and I thought he did at least a decent job. The team worked out some corners this week, so the fact that they went with Atchison tells you that the team believes he can do the job if called upon. Continue reading on the next page…

The final cut day came and went for the Rams, and so did a number of players who are quality NFL players. I have to admit that I was shocked when the team let Donnie Avery go, and although admittedly I’m not an Avery fan, I still couldn’t believe it. The bad news is that Avery did not get claimed by any NFL team through the waiver process, which means that the team will have to pay his base salary of $638,000 that was guaranteed.

Although Avery is still unclaimed, several of the players who got cut did find new homes quickly. Thad Lewis was picked up by the Browns, which comes as absolutely no suprise considering former Rams OC and current Browns head man Pat Shurmur is a big Lewis fan. I too am a big Lewis fan, so I hope he carves out a spot in Cleveland. Speaking of guys I’m a big fan of, DE George Selvie was claimed by the Carolina Panthers. If I have one major beef with the roster decisions, it’s that Selvie was cut while CJ Ah You and Eugene Sims were not. Still, Selvie should be able to get some time in Carolina, and I have a feeling he will be a good NFL player. Also, WR Mardy Gilyard is heading to New York to join the Jets. He just seems like a Jets kind of player, so hopefully they will give him a chance. More after the jump…
