The Rams have done a pretty nice job of helping in Joplin after the devastating tornadoes earlier in the year, and their efforts continued on Wednesday. The organization sent a large number of staff and media members to Joplin early Wednesday morning as part of their monthly community service project. The Rams partnered with the United Way and AmeriCorps on the project. Kevin Demoff discussed the trip with the team’s website on Tuesday.

“Given the degree of devastation that Joplin suffered, we knew it would be important to assist in a sustained relief effort to support the initial wave of volunteers that jumped into action immediately following the tornado,” said Kevin Demoff, executive vice president of football operations/chief operating officer, St. Louis Rams. “We’re proud that our Staff Days of Service program has become a hallmark of this organization and allows us to give back to the community in meaningful ways like this. Tomorrow is a great opportunity for us to come together as a staff to help our Missouri neighbors and remind people of the ongoing needs in Joplin.”

If the team isn’t going to play football because of the lockout, it’s good to see the organization spending their time helping with the ongoing effort in Joplin. The area can use all the help anyone is willing to give, so if you want to participate head to the United Way’s website to get started.

In some potentially unfortunate news for the Rams, running backs coach Sylvester Croom is reportedly going to interview for an opening on Nick Saban’s Alabama coaching staff. Croom is well-liked by the players and the rest of the coaches, and he has done a particularly good job with Steven Jackson. Croom isn’t gone yet, but I think it would be an unfortuate and understated loss for the Rams organization if he does leave. I’ll keep everyone posted when more news comes out on his status.

Jackson’s TD For Charity – I got an email yesterday informing me that thanks to SJ39′s touchdown in Sunday’s Pro Bowl, $5,000 will be donated to the local St. Louis United Way chapter courtesy of Proctor & Gamble. The donation is all part of P&G’s “Touchdown For Kids” initiative, so I just wanted to acknowledge the company and Jackson for doing their part to help out the city.
