For the next couple of weeks I will be looking at some possible options for the Rams to take a look at this offseason. Since many people believe wide receiver is the most glaring need on this team, I thought that would be a good place to start. Here are some names I believe the Rams need to check out over the next few months.

Braylon Edwards – I have to admit that I’m a little biased here, because I’m a huge Michigan fan and a huge Edwards fan. He is a big receiver who has proven in the past that he brings to the table exactly what the Rams need: a big play threat who can stretch the field. There are plenty of question marks with Edwards, including dropped passes and character issues, but I’m of the belief that the talent Edwards possesses would be perfect for this team. For more on Edwards, check out this article by Brian Stull.
Stully On Edwards

Vincent Jackson – Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows how hard I campaigned for the Rams to trade for Jackson earlier this season, so it stands to reason that I would encourage the team to take another look at him this offseason. He has character questions just like Edwards, but he also brings many of the same attributes to the table.

Sidney Rice – I have heard Rice’s name in connection with the Rams more than anyone else on this list, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a part of this team next season. He is coming off injury, which could scare the Rams off a bit, but there’s no question he has the talent to make this offense much better when healthy.

James Jones – This is the guy I’m really starting to like. He has flown under the radar a bit in Green Bay, but he has the potential to be an excellent starting receiver in this league. He is a great athlete, and he has good size and strength. He suffers from dropped passes a little bit, which is a concern, but he could be a very nice upgrade for a more reasonable price than some of the players listed above.

When I heard that the Vikings planned on releasing Randy Moss earlier today, the first thing I thought was ” here we go again”. Rams fans have already been through this twice this year, with Terrell Owens and Vincent Jackson. Then I thought to myself, “at least this one will be easy to dismiss”. Then, as I’m watching Monday Night Football, I hear Mort say that he thinks the Rams might be the frontrunners for Moss. Obviously, at that point I knew I was going to have to write about this continuously until Moss finds a home. So… let’s talk about it.

Here’s my stance on Moss. As most of you know, I have been on the Rams about adding a true number one wide receiver since before the draft last spring. Moss certainly fits that mold, but I’m going to go ahead and pass here. First, he has proven over the years that if he’s not on a Super Bowl contender, then he’s not interested in playing. I know the Rams are right in the thick of the division race, but he won’t be happy here. Also, he is obviously still madly in love with the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick, as evidenced by his press conference/rant after Sunday’s game. He won’t be happy unless he goes back there, and he will be a major problem for anyone else.

If you could guarantee me that Moss would give 100 percent and not cause any problems, I would say pull the trigger in a second. The fact of the matter is, this organization has made it known they aren’t going to bring in guys with issues, and Moss might be at the top of that heap. I would be shocked if we put in a claim on Randy Moss, but I have been known to be wrong before, so we will have to wait and see. Let’s see what you think. Hit up the comment section and let your voice be heard. If you don’t want to comment, go ahead and cast your vote on the poll.

So I had a buddy ask me the other day how much the Rams are going to lose by this week when they welcome the Chargers to the Edward Jones Dome, and I really didn’t know what to tell him. I mean, on paper this looks like it could get ugly really quick, but, as the old saying goes, that’s why they play the games. The more I think about it, the more I convince myself that our beloved Rams can at least make a game out of this thing. We have played extremely well at home so far in 2010, and the Chargers have made a habit of finding ways to lose games they should win. I still think the Bolts will probably pull out the victory, but here are some things the Rams will need to do if they want to take the upset.

Don’t Let SD “Phil” It Up – I don’t think I’m alone in the belief that Phillip Rivers is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league right now, and he is putting up outstanding numbers so far in 2010, especially considering he has been without his top target (Vincent Jackson) for the entire season. As good as he is, he does make mistakes, and the defense has to take advantage. We have been pretty terrible at catching the ball in the secondary, but there won’t be any room for error tomorrow.

Stiff On The Ground – I’m not completely sold on SD’s running game just yet, but I do know that we will have to keep Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews bottled up if we want to stay in the game. If we have to put 8 in the box to stop their run, the secondary will be in for a looooong day.

Close The Gates – We all know how the Rams have struggled against talented tight ends in the past, but the team has actually done a nice job in that area so far this season. It could be a different story tomorrow when Antonio Gates steps on the field. He is off to one of the best starts of his career, and we need to keep him in check.

Who Catches The Ball? – No Donnie Avery. No Mark Clayton. Very few teams can bounce back after their two top receiving targets are lost for the season, but the Rams will have to do just that. Guys like Laurent Robinson and Danny Amendola are going to have to be even better than they have been, which is a pretty tall task, especially for Amendola. We do get Illini Mike back, and it’s possible Danario Alexander could get some snaps on offense, but we have to find a way to move the ball through the air.

The Teams Are Special – The Chargers have been absolutely abysmal on special teams so far, and we have to take advantage of that. If we could find a way to get some points on teams, it could go a long way in deciding the fate of the game. We certainly have to keep their return game in check, because they will probably have plenty of points from the offensive side of the ball.

Overall, I think the Rams can be competitive, but I still like the Chargers to come out on top. My prediction is 31-17 Bolts, but I think we can stay in the game for the majority of play.
