Los Angeles Rams: 3 bold predictions for Week 1 of preseason against Baltimore Ravens
By Steve Rivera
The Rams are set at the key position of quarterback with Goff rightfully locked at the top of the depth chart. Second to Goff is a unicorn of sorts in the seldom seen or heard, Sean Mannion.
Mannion, who is entering his fourth year in the National Football League is one player who still poses a lot of questions, with the biggest being his ability to step in and perform should the need arise.
Hey look, it’s no secret that just about every team is one injury away, especially at quarterback, at having their season scuttled, and Los Angeles is no exception.
Bottom line is Mannion needing a long and critical look as the Rams are nearing a season on the brink of potential greatness.
Can he lead?
Can he make the big play?
Can he step in if something happens to Goff?
Backup quarterback is an absolute riddle in the NFL. You never really know what you have lower on the depth chart until you need to find out. What happened last season with the Philadelphia Eagles is a rarity. They have two starting quarterbacks, one with a Super Bowl MVP just six months ago, who is a backup.
Do the Rams have that?
Not likely.
McVay will begin the process of evaluating his backup quarterbacks, as he has that luxury this preseason. Goff is clearly the guy in Los Angeles. The question is whether Mannion is his legitimate second.
