WR Reynolds

The Rams may have sealed the fate of WR Josh Reynolds when they extended both starting wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. For all intents and purposes, Reynolds has played his heart out this season, and is certainly deserving of significant playing time in 2021. So far in 2020, he has played over 70 percent of the offensive snaps.

But he has earned that playing time. In a year where he was expected to lose his role to rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson, Josh Reynolds played his finest season of his career. He elevated a 50 percent career completion rate by catching over 64 percent of the passes thrown his way. In fact, he has caught 48 of 75 passes thrown his way for 589 yards and two touchdowns.  In all but receiving touchdowns, these are career highs.

Reynolds refashioned his game

The 6-foot-3 196-pound receiver is one of the tallest and fastest receivers on the offense. In many ways, rather than use his speed to stretch the field, he has fashioned his game more along the lines of his route-running, contested-pass-catching teammates this season. It was that evolution of his style that has translated into a much higher completion rate this year.

The Rams have a backlog of young talent who want to get more playing time in 2021. The Rams drafted Van Johnson, and then signed a very talented receiver in Trishton Jackson who in many ways is a younger version of Reynolds. Reynolds will no doubt attract plenty of attention in the 2021 NFL Free Agency market, and with projected salary offers of $7 million / year, he should factor into the Rams 2022 compensatory NFL Draft pick award calculation. That could project as a sixth-round comp pick for the Rams.
