The Rams defense getting stronger with each game

Why hasn’t more been said about the outstanding job on defense by the LA Rams? They are a suffocating defense and are getting stronger with each week.  A unit that finished first in the NFL in both yards and points allowed is a pretty good showing for a unit that has been middle of the road for years. It is this defense that gives the Rams a fighting chance of advancing.

Complicating their jobs is the fact that this is one of the worst seasons in LA Rams history of giving the ball away under head coach Sean McVay. As described in the previous slide, the Rams have frequently allowed other teams to take over in excellent field position.  And that should not fall upon the Rams defense, but it does anyway.

Rams defense is a scoring threat

The LA Rams defense has scored four touchdowns and recorded one safety in 2020. That has translated into 30 points on the scoreboard this year, and based on the way statistics are recorded, has ended up in the offensive statistics. Of course, since scoring is recorded for all NFL teams in this manner, the belief is that it will wash out for all teams.

But for the Rams offensive output, 30 points of the team’s 372 points scored is significant. In fact, these 30 points are nearly 10 percent of the team’s total points of the season.  While that does not say much for the Rams’ offense, it does highlight just how dangerous the Rams defense has been to close out the season. In fact, the Rams have scored three touchdowns and a safety over the last five games of the season.  Will that play a factor in the playoffs? Hopefully yes.
