Filling the void

OK, so now that you’ve traded your most dynamic and reliable pass-catcher, how do the Rams fill the void his departure represents? How do you replace that kind of production in the passing game? The old adage: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush has true relevance here. Obviously, the quip refers to what the Rams currently have in Woods as far more valuable than what they might get in the draft.

So what can the Rams do after they go down this dark path of creating another roster opening? Let’s face the facts, adding a cannon-armed quarterback but trading away the best-damned receiver on the roster would really send some mixed messages, wouldn’t it?

That’s why any offer truly needs to be a blow-them-away bid.

Once a trade is agreed to (based on the huge haul), the Rams are not stuck. They have plenty of options.  What are they? Well, three (and possibly a fourth) options exist for the Rams.  First and foremost, the LA Rams could convert the draft pick into a new receiver. Why use that valuable pick just to fill the same position?

Well, a first-round pick immediately lowers the Rams salary cap. And the Rams have the option to trade back too.  But let’s look at who the Rams could grab from a late first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft?
